I caught Miller's Crossing recently for the first time on FMC. These guys make such great films. Just wondering what all of your favorites are, if you have one.

Fargo, having lived in northern MN for 12 years makes that movie hilarious.

Wow, I voted Fargo too. I really enjoyed it and it was right up my alley. One of the best ambiance movies I've seen too.

Fargo was a great movie, but I voted Big Lebowski because of the stupid accents in Fargo. I've lived in Minnesota my entire life and the only time I've actually heard people talk like that it was morons from out of state who thought the movie was accurate.

Well if you live in the cities you probably don't hear it at all, but up north it is there. It is MUCH more subtle than the movie makes it, but when I was visiting friends there last August I could for sure hear it in some peoples voices.

Hard choice between Lebowski and Barton Fink, but the presence of banjos wins me over to O Brother, Where Art Thou? As a traditional musician it was in fact quite rewarding to see a movie that got it right.

I voted for "O brother where art thou", too. Especially because of the music (One of the rare films I have the Music CD at home).

The scary thing is that the closest I've come to seeing any of these movies is Sullivan's Travels...

I've liked all the ones I've seen but I liked Oh brother the best.

Raising Arizona, with a big shout out to Fargo, it's just a cult classic, eh.

Miller's Crossing is one of the most under-rated gangster flicks ever made. Its excellent, if somewhat more conventional that the Coens' usual offerings.

It's a tough call between Lebowski and Fargo, but I had to go with The Dude on this one. But I like all their movies, with the exceptions of Interolable Cruelty and Ladykillers.

Also, The Man Who Wasn't there is an amazing, amazing film. It came and went while O Brother was still huge, and thus stayed under the radar but I think it may be the best looking B&W film I've ever seen.

"Big Lebowski" is probably their least bad film, although "O Brother" is a close 2nd. The problem with the Coen Brothers is that they write the sort of chin-stroking, genre-referential films that appeal to film buffs, but which are very difficult to enjoy just as films.

Oh, and take "Ladykillers" off the list of 'Coen Bros' films please. That's just an Ealing comedy that was reshot with worse pacing and worse actors than the original (Alec Guinness > Tom Hanks). Kthxbye.

Hudsucker Proxy for me.
Don't fully understand why, but I greatly adore this film more than any of their others.

It's a tie between O Brother and Raising Arizona. The former because of the music, and the latter because parts of Invader Zim were based on it/John Goodman swinging Nicholas Cage around a trailer.

If it wasn't for The Big Lebowski, Hudsucker would get my vote too. I think it's my undying respect for Tim Robbins that does it. Such a great movie!!

But in the end The Dude wins out for it's music, and humour.

With Ladykillers and Fargo tying for a close 3rd.

It could never be anything but The Big Lebowski. One of my all time favourite laugh-out-loud films.

The Hudsucker Proxy gets my vote, though it was a tough decision between that and The Big Lebowski. In the end, expressionism wins, at least for me.
