Spider-Man: Reign (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man:_Reign) is a non-canon mini-series that is sort of like the Spider-Man equivalent of The Dark Knight Returns. In a dystopian future New York, an aging Peter Parker must don his iconic suit once more to free his beloved city from its corrupt government? What makes this comic special?
Well, for one thing, it is a pretty decent story. Old Peter Parker is sympathetic and vulnerable, while still being a total badass. He isn't as strong as he once was, but is still able to hold his own against various super-villains and the brutal police force called the Reign.
There is also a lot of unintentional black comedy. Mary Jane died from cancer because of Peter Parker's poison semen. You read that correctly. The radioactive spider bite made his sperm toxic. Also, Doctor Octopus is now a rotting corpse attached to his still-animate robotic tentacles.
