Here's Ajar the Grippli Fey Bard (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=688172). He's an albino Grippli who rides an albino pygmy Glidewing and uses a Lute-Bow berimbau.

We're being given a chance to rebuild and I could use some help I think.

The game is in Eberron in UnderSharn. Level 4 and there will be seven of us. We're strong on melee but weak on casting. Ajar is supposed to be a ranged character.

I suspect that my feat and spell choices are okay, I followed Handbooks for those mostly. It's likely his gear that needs work. I am aware that Fey Bard is the weakest variant, but that's the one bit I'm very attached to.

Whatever advice you can give would be appreciated. He's only seen one combat, in which he was ineffective. I just want to be able to actually help when the going gets tough.

Get Wild Cohort (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031118a) and drop the Fey Bard variant. Add Inspirational Boost to your spells and get a Badge of Valor. Probably even go with the Savage Bard variant. Get Song of the Heart instead of your Suggestion song at 6th level, and get Spellbreaker Song (CM) and Healing Hymn (CC).

Consider adding flaws, I'd recommend Skulker and Love of Nature (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258440#30), though there are quite a few that would work. That will allow you to pick up Wild Cohort without sacrificing one of your current feats, plus another feat. I'd recommend either Versatile Spellcaster or perhaps Lyric Spell. You could also get rid of an existing feat (Jack of All Trades) to get a pair of feats to greatly improve your character. Point-Blank Shot and Precise Shot would be useful, or even Dragontouched and Dragonfire Inspiration. If you get DFI plan to dip a single level of Sorcerer for Metamagic Specialist and the Dragonblood Sorcerer sub level for Draconic Heritage.

For future levels, plan to go Bard 8/ Dragonblood Sorcerer or Mindbender 1/ Dragon Devotee 1/ Sublime Chord 2/ PrCs with full casting 8. If you want to skip Mindbender and make a turn toward good, this trick (www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=267805#4) would be a significant boon to your spellcasting.

If you want to change some items, the first place you should shop is Shax's Indispensable Haversack (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148101). An Anklet of Translocation and a Healing Belt would also be extremely useful. You have UMD, get some (Eternal) Wands of useful spells like Web and Wings of Cover and Command Undead, and see if you can get a Wand Chamber added to your weapon.

What are the pros/cons of switching to Wild Cohort instead of Fey Bard for gaining my Animal Companion? As it stands the glidewing is from Dragon but is RAW allowed as an Animal Companion. WOuld switching require DM fiat to allow the glidewing?

And yeah, definitely switching some spells around if he regains Inspire Courage etc.

I'm fairly certain we are not allowed flaws (it's been a while since the initial build), thus why they're missing from the sheet.

I was aware of Shax Haversack and the List of Necessary Items as well. Thanks for the specific suggestions though.

Wild Cohort only costs a feat, and counts all your character levels even if you multiclass. Fey Bard costs you the best and most unique Bard class features, and only counts your Bard levels and levels in other classes that grant an animal companion.

You can get a wild cohort that's any type of animal that would be available as an animal companion. However, anything that wouldn't be available at 1st level has its availability delayed by an additional three levels, but it's still the same 'level -x' that it would be as an animal companion. If that companion is available at 1st level, you can have it as a wild cohort. If it's a 'level -3' companion, you would normally have to wait until you're 7th level to gain it as a 'level -3' wild cohort.

I love Grippli, BTW. My girlfriend is playing one as a Swordsage/Scout and loves it.

I would switch from Bard to Factotum. Especially if you can get the DM to homebrew a Bardic Inspiration feat that lets you extend your bonuses to allies while performing.

Nymph's Kiss is a good feat for a Fey Bard.
