Are there any prestige classes similar to lore master in that they advance arcane casting and have a heavy knowledge focus?

Tainted Scholar from Heroes of Horror. But be careful: there are ways of breaking that totally open.

There is limited similarity, but Urban Savant from Cityscape has excellent skill points, special uses for some of the Knowledge skills in a city context (similar to the Archivist's Dark Knowledge), and some other useful city-themed abilities. One of only a few full-progression casting classes that gives good skill points.

Also, Unseen Seer has a divination focus and lots of skill points, can kind of fill a similar role. Also gives some nice stealth abilities, which can be kind of useful for a less front-line, bookish caster. Unseen Seer is from Complete Mage.

Eh, I'm a big fan of knowledge-based base-classes:
- Factotum: THE knowledge class, with 1 spell per spell level.
- Duskblade with Knowledge Devotion. Comes across as a really smart swordsman/spellcaster.
- Archivist: Basically a Wizard, but with Divine spells.
- Beguiler: Lots of skills and an Int based caster.

POINTS. I love this very obscure PrC.

Free metamagic or item creation feat for a one level dip? Why isn't this more popular? Seems like a good choice to slot into any gaps in a Grey Elf Wizard build, especially Mailman types.

And for dwarves, there's the Ollam, from Complete Adventurer.

Only 3/5 spellcasting progression, but it has a dwarven version of bardic lore, and a couple other quasibardish things.

- Factotum: THE knowledge class, with 1 spell per spell level..

Think it's worth noting that its 1 spell of their highest level, and a maximum of 1 specific spell per day, but if your highest spell level is 5, you can have one 5th level and then all the rest 4th level iirc?

Loredelver from Races of Destiny, though it is an Illumian-only prc.

Entering classes such as Loredelver, Urban Savant and Paragnostic Apostle via Bardic Sage (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#bardVariantBardicSage) is a decent idea.

Dark Scholar from Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde.
Similarly, Primal Scholar from Secrets of Xendrik. Pretty dependent on Action Points, though, like a lot of stuff from the Eberron books.
