Greetings! I have made a few necropolitan npc casters. A few which have alter self as spells known/prepared.

Here's the snippet on the spell:

You assume the form of a creature of the same type as your normal form. The new form must be within one size category of your normal size. The maximum HD of an assumed form is equal to your caster level, to a maximum of 5 HD at 5th level. You can change into a member of your own kind or even into yourself.

I believe Necropolitan changes his type to Undead, so the famous troglodyte form chosen by many casters is off limits here.

I can use pretty much all 3.5 sources for this, but was asking if any of you had ran undead casters using alter self and what forms would be useful.

Thank you very much in advance.

Just perusing Libris Mortis, I found some interesting forms:

Dessicator 4HD

Deathlock 3HD

Ghost Brute (probably not, though, being a template)

Murk 3HD

Raiment 3HD

Skin Kite 4HD

Skulking Cyst 4HD

Slaymate 4HD

Tomb Mote 3HD (Pity you can't use Quickness with it)

I've noticed most undead have a ton of HD, making the choices for undead casters and alter self not that very optimal, except perhaps for size changes.
