One of the things that I regret most is that I didn't notice or take interest in GW's Specialist games until they had all been discontinued. I've been wondering for a while if there are any decent ways to get my hands on specialist game stuff.

Mostly I've been interested in Battlfleet Gothic and Epic, aside from Ebay does anyone know any ways to buy stuff for it? I hate to ask cause it seems a little sketchy but do recasting sites exist?

EBay or Amazon.

If recasting sites existed, they would be in violation of copyright, and thus not something we could discuss. Though I suspect they do not, because GW's lawyers are almost as rabid as those of The Mouse.

"Almost"?!

I can't say they are as rabid as The Mouse. That might cause The Mouse's lawyers to sue me for defamatory comments by implying someone is equal to them. The veracity of all current or prior statements regarding this matter may be re-evaluated in this context.

Aren't their methods trademarked as well?

No, and I really shouldn't be encouraging this sort of thing. Will lock the thread unless we want to turn this into a genuine discussion of the various Specialist games, minus any mention of recasting.

*salutes* Allow me to oblige, Glyphstone.....

Epic and Battlefleet Gothic. They're both unsupported systems released over 10 years ago, so that 10 year old kid who received one of the other for Christmas, is now 20 years old and moved away to college. So, his parents are clearing out clutter space via their local charity store, yard sale or - if you're really lucky - at at the Bring & Buy tables of Games Fairs and other conventions.

The latter is certainly where I've seen Epic and BFG, outside of eBay. No guarantees, but realistically that's the sort of place you'd have to look.

Alternatively, if you have a non-GW affiliated FLGS it might be worth just asking around and seeing if anyone is holding on to any old stuff that they don't use any more. I personally play Necromunda, Mordheim and Blood Bowl whenever the chance presents itself, and you'd be surprised how many people would also play if only someone would offer to play with them.

Certainly true. I'd love to play Blood Bowl again if I could find an opponent, same with Man O'War

Sorry bout that, should've realized illegal stuff is not to be discussed >.>
I've been hitting myself for not getting into any of the specialist games and only getting interest in them when they were discontinued. At the moment I've been trying to get my friends into playing Inquisimunda (sort of a house-rules blend of Inquisition and necromunda the internet has graced us with) as it's the only game where you can easily get models.

However I've been hearing some rumors lately about specialist games coming back in Q3 this year. Kind of seems like wishful thinking to me but anyone else got an opinion?

It's like mixing regular Warhammer with the whole "Ooooh, gaining levels! Getting stronger! Must have more!"-aspect of RPGs, and the result is amazing. And - given that it's played with regular Warhammer miniatures, and the rules being available for free on the GW website, it doesn't even require eBay or any other convoluted shenanigans to get into!

I've heard tales of a Mordheim mod for Vassal. I may well look into that, given that there seems to be interest by several GitP folks, and I and my Skaven, the Darkblade Assassins, have a dark and bloody reputation to uphold.... :smallamused:

Space Hulk was rereleased in Q3 of 2009, and Dreadfleet was a sorta-kinda rerelease of an old game called Man O' War - which was originally cancelled before even *I* started collecting Games Workshop stuff - in Q3 2011.

The big rumour was that Blood Bowl was going to continue the pattern by being the special "one off" rerelease for Q3 2013, but it never manifested for a number of reasons. Given GW's current financial and political climate, it's very unlikely that they'll do the same in the near future, not without unbelievably convincing guarantee that it'll make them tonnes of money.

So, y'know.... I've said it before: A special boxed edition of Necromunda might just do the trick, if only they'd listen to me..... :smallwink:

Having said that, one of the reasons as to why GW didn't rerelease Blood Bowl was due to competition with a company called Mantic Games who had just previously completed a HUGELY successful Kickstarter for a similar (though sci-fi themed) game called Dreadball (http://www.manticgames.com/games/dreadball.html), and they have just recently done the same for a futuristic skirmish-based miniatures wargame called Deadzone (http://www.manticgames.com/games/deadzone.html).

By all accounts, they're both very good games and very similar to the old GW systems. Might be worth checking out?

I've heard nothing but good things about Deadzone (haven't played it myself) but I can confirm that Dreadball is bloody awesome! For one; your turn doesn't end if one of your players gets knocked down. Pitch also doesn't reset after someone scores; turn ends, new ball launched onto the pitch, next turn starts. Adds an interesting tactical element because you can't just charge your whole team into the enemy's side of the pitch because then you'll be left wide-open when the new ball launches - one enemy slips past your guys and they've got a clear shot to the 4-point strike zone.
