Ok, wait till Blackout and the other Tauistas see this...

< semi Tauista who wants to try them but doesn't have the money or time right now.

Here's a linky to a 1500 point Tau army which should be at least a start for you. It's got an army list underneath it showing what fills in what spot.

Compulsory:

It should be in one thread, but for some reason, it doesn't stay there.

Anyway, yes, the others have it right. You may also notice that some squads may have a number next to them, such as 0-1, 1+ or 0-2 or the like. 1+ means that squad is compulsory and must be taken, whereas 0-1 or 0-2 specifies that you may only have 1 (or in the case of the second one, 2) squads maximum, no matter how many actual force deployment squads you have left (e.g. 3 heavy support squads but only 0-1 land raider means you can only take one land raider but still have 2 other choices left).

I suggest getting the Army Builder software. It helps you make lists.

It varies by mission. If you are looking to make a solid, tourney-capable army, Its good to go 1 HQ, 2-4 troops, 1-2 elite, 1-2 fast attack, and 1-3 heavy support.
