I've always wondered on how to build a character focused on dealing damage with his music. I don't mean reflavouring melodic casting really through music (namely perform and/or bardic music).
Isn't there a prc who has a music effect like this? IIRC it is pretty bad though and needs some proper optimization.

So my question is pretty simple but hard to solve. How would you go about building a character who's main shtick is to deal damage through music?
Casting and all on top of it is fine as well as 3.0 material like song and silence but again music is the focus.

Well there's dragonfire inspiration, but that just lights your allies' weapons on fire, so you aren't actually doing the damage, but its something.

One PrC I've been dying to build around is stormsinger. It expends Bardic Music to do various weather related effects, starting at a gust of wind to electricity damage equal to your perform check to control weather and storm of vengeance.

Ally includes yourself?

Sing + Dragonfire inspiration + Swordfighting?

It's not particularly optimized but there's Seeker of the Song from Complete Arcane.

There's a prestige class called Stormsinger in Frostburn, it's probably exactly what you're looking for.

Hmm stormsinger seems like a start. I could see that working with a properly optimised perform check. So how would you guys go about that?

What does seeker of the song again? I IRC it is a very music focused pro but not sure right now.

The first place to start when optimizing a skill check is Item Familiar (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/itemFamiliars.htm). Its Invest Skill Ranks ability can give you a bonus equal to your number of ranks in that skill. You can also upgrade it yourself, so add a Competence bonus (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/creatingMagicItems.htm) at (Bonus Squared x 100 gp), and it can be up to +30 pre-epic (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/magicItems/basics.htm). When a Stormsinger gets Thunderstrike at 3rd level, you should be 8th level with 11 ranks in Perform (Sing). Your Item Familiar can give you another +11 to that via Invest Skill Ranks, plus the +2 from Stormpower, +3 for Skill Focus, probably +6 for Cha, you would dip Marshal (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20030906b) for Motivate Charisma for another +6, +2 for a Masterwork Tool (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/goodsAndServices.htm#toolMasterwork), and probably around a +10 Competence bonus from your upgraded Item Familiar. That's a +51 to Perform at level 8, so you'll average over 60 damage with your Thunderstrike ability from Stormsinger as soon as you get it.

Seeker of the Song bases some new bardic music effects that mimic typical spell effects and keys them off of Perform checks. Not very optimal (especially side-by-side with the titan known as SUBLIME CHORD), but a ton of flavor and an interesting mechanic to play around with.

Hmm yeah I figured something along this line but I hoped there would be a more creative use than going stormsinger, min maxing perform and getting as much daily uses as possible. I wonder if the build would be combineable with factotum 8 for some nova.
