My other half is looking at taking a begiler and is thinking of sticking herself on a mount of sorts but neither of us are 100% sure how this is going to affect her.

Will this be causing a concentration check for every spell she casts while the mount is moving?

And what is a good mount for a halfling to be on to keep her out of combat? We are in the frostburn setting so I want to stick her on a wooly mammoth for fun :D

Casting while mounted only calls for a Concentration check while the mount is actually moving (DC 10 for normal movement, DC 15 for a gallop).

If you really want to specialize, there is always the Mounted Casting feat (Miniatures Handbook). +10 bonus to concentration checks while mounted.

Naturally any caster should have a high priority on boosting their Concentration anyway...here's some general tips: Boosting Concentration (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37367).

Ah, didn't think of looking in the minis book, thanks for that.

Oh anyone know where the cost of a mammoth is, as I can find elephant, but no training costs are mentioned in the frostburn book other than the Giant raven and the Tlalusk.

Feel I should mentioned that they DCs are always those listed plus spell level, so 10+ spell level for normal, and 15+spell level for gallop. It's also worth noting that "normal movement" is when your horse double moves. If your horse single moves, then there's no concentration check at all.

While it's 3.0 material, there is a listed price for any animal with the Warbeast template. A warbeast mammoth would cost (100+15*75) 1,225gp.

Might seem a little cheap though.

Ah, good clarification. My bad.

If you are a beguiler anyhow, you could play a centaur that just *looks* like a biped on a horse. :smallcool:

You mean a fake horse head and fake human legs? Now that is funny as hell, and I am sure she would love to play it, but she wants to stay small and hidden :D

One thing to consider: as a Beguiler, you qualify for Obtain Familiar, and thence Improved Familiar. You could use that to get a Winter Wolf or the like, with the table of combat familiars from Complete Warrior.

A Mammoth seems a bit excessive, unless you're out in wide open spaces a lot.

Play a Bariaur and have your girlfriend ride you?

She can even prevent damage dealt do you with a high ride check!

Also, adds some humor.

I will just let her buy an array of saddles she can pull out of her bag, I am running a druid with both dragon and frozen wild shape :D

EDIT: Is there a polymorphic that can go on what ever monster it wants... or a magic one.

TO THE BOOKS!!!

Wolves are the right size, fit the setting, and have a speed of 50ft.

As for the costs of buying trained animals, the warbeast template makes them too cheap for my tastes. A long time ago, I made a thread asking people what a good system would be, and got this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14948307&postcount=2), which I've decided to use in my games.

That's a funny way of pronouncing "Zhentarim Skymage."

They're from the WotC site, not homebrew.

Play a human, cast Expeditious retreat and cast a Major Image of the Horse.
Trouble is though that you can't cast any other spells whilst riding since you have to maintain concentration on the existence of your horse. You might need a pair of stilts to get the height right too.
