The spikes are natural weapons that you can use as if they were manufactured weapons. So you might be able to Power Attack with them. This makes them ideal offhand weapons to pair up with a two-handed weapon.

Damage reduction 2/bludgeoning: A spiker’s spiny skin grants resistance to bludgeoning attacks, though piercing or slashing attacks slip through normally.
It seems like they got the DR type and fluff backwards by my reading. From the fluff, it should be DR 2/slashing or piercing, no?

Ah, seems like they picked that up in errata.

Page 15: Spiker Racial Traits
The spiker should have DR 2/piercing or slashing, not DR 2/bludgeoning.

You could always try a Spinemeld Warrior (i think that's what its called) with spiked armor ;P

How would the natural spikes interact with the attacks gained froom Black Blood Cultist? It seems like a really interesting PrC for Spikers in general, actually.

Successful grapple check -> free spike damage. Great for Totemists.
