Well ok so I have a friend who is making a character who is 1 level Rogue and the rest is going Bard or Sorcerer he has yet to decide. But I know that is breaking the cardinal rule of building a character by giving up a spellcaster level.

Is there anything such as a feat to give him back the equivalency of that spellcasting level?

The closest I know of is Practiced Spellcaster in Complete Arcane. It increases caster level, but does not affect spells known or spells per day.

Practiced spell caster boosts your CL.

Bard doesn't care much. Sorc will survive 1 level lost.
It only matters at high optimization levels, which I bet won't be needed.

Ioun stones can give a +1 too.

You may want to have your friend look into the Unseen Seer prestige class as well as material presented in this handbook: Sneak Attacking Spellcasters (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=1240)
