I saw a thread like this before but it seems to have died off a long time ago so I thought I would give it another try.

I want to hear all of your odd, funny, creative, overpowered, cool, or just plain fun character concepts.

A couple that I have are a rouge|cleric who was basically Scarface up to the point where he died. Then was raised from the dead by a priest to give him a second chance to right his wrongs. He now travels from place to place spreading the good news while everyone is terrified of him because they know of his criminal past.

Another would be a half orc barbarian | paladin who was raised by a leader of an inquisition that wiped out the tribe of maurarding orcs he came from. He struggles with the brutality of his heritage and the brutality of his order when all he wants to do is protect others but all he has learned is to do is eliminate the threat he is pointed at.

How about a dual whip wielding tempest fighter. The ultimate cowboy. Minotaur of course.

A tough and macho brutal scoundrel rogue... who is a gnome.

Two here, just off the top of my head:

A warforged cleric/druid who's become obsessed with nature spirits or a nature-loving deity, and desperately seeks their favour to 'become a real boy'

A short tempered Alchemist who's primary passion in life is cooking and seeking the perfect flavour. To expand their rang of ingredients and recipes, they have opted for a wandering life and travel (cauldron strapped to their back lol) the world

Hybrid Fighter/Warlord with the Ordained Priest theme so he can be a priest of Kord.

I can't remember if I posted these in the previous thread, but here are my two current character (I am generally the one playing the "comic relief" character)

A nine-year-old human Warlock who, in addition to being completely crazy, is accompanied by a menagerie of animated teddy bears.

A pixie Barbarian/Fighter from a tribe in the Feywild who are infamous for their brutal treatment of foreigners - anyone unwelcome who sets foot in that forest are never heard from again. Oh, also, he rides an owlbear. So Owlbear mounted cavalry essentially.

At a whim I created a level 30 warforged rogue/vampire hybrid with the werewolf theme and the Sword Coast Corsair paragon path, and Demigod ED.

So he's essentially a vampire werewolf robot ninja pirate god. Not sure how much more wacky I could make it, but I'm happy with that. Never did finish the build, as I really couldn't care enough to finish building a rogue/vampire hybrid :smalltongue:

Other than that, I do very much enjoy my other epic level character build, which is an Int based fighter with paragon multiclass into wizard. Main feature being an area burst 2, ally-friendly at-will that gives a -7 penalty to attack to enemies it hits, and -5 when it misses. Add in a lot of stances and powers that grant bonuses to defenses, it does appear to be a rather fun and effective defender, even though it doesn't have a single fighter attack power (outside a single at-will which won't ever be used). Only problem with the build is that it's practically useless before mid-paragon.

Always a classic. Vampire (vryloka) vampire (class) vampire (heritage feat) is fun too. Also Werewolf (shifter) werewolf (theme) werewolf (predator druid), though that requires a bit of fluff flexibility on the druid. It's actually fairly decent, the were-themes give you a hybrid beast form where you can use the druid Beast At-Wills as well as all your normal powers.

As far as fluff goes, the coolest concept that 4e has given me is Base Class - Psion, PP - Anathema, Epic destiny - Demiurge. I've never bothered to try and optimize it for gameplay but the story telling implications are amazing.

The idea being that a Psion becomes obsessed with the building blocks of reality. At first he becomes fascinated with tearing them apart (the Anathema paragon path) but then he comes to terms with the evil of his actions after he utterly destroyes something important to him. He then turns to the Demiurge Epic Destiny to atone for what he has destroyed by building new realities and giving them a chance to thrive. Definitely some Final Fantasy-level stuff right there.

An Invoker whose staff is the one that has the power, not him.

An absolutely insane Shaman/Druid that thinks he's a hunting dog.

A Bard that worships Val Halla.

I made a lie detector once, he was supposed to make a living as a guide and translator, he was a human psion that had 40 passive Insight at level 10 and knew 12 languages.

I haven't actually gotten to use either of these in a game yet :smallfrown:, but I have always wanted to try:

1) A Tiefling Defender who can get himself surrounded by enemies - with the help of an allied controller - and then get hit in the face with a Fireball from the party spellcaster on grounds that he won't get hurt as much as the guys next to him

2) An Eladrin Skirmishing Warlord who mechanically gives his allies a movement bonus for being a Warlord, but who story-wise gives his allies a teleportation bonus for being an Eladrin. The "Miss Me Once" power could even be described in game as "I blink out of existence for a split-second to dodge his attack, and he is so surprised that he loses focus on what's happening around him."

There's a Bard feat that basically actually does that. Walk Among the Fey. Teleports for days.

There's a Bard feat that basically actually does that. Walk Among the Fey. Teleports for days. I wasn't walking about "use teleportation to force an attack to miss," I was talking about "use teleportation to describe an attack that already missed."

Miss Me Once does not make an enemy miss you, it gives your allies combat advantage against an enemy that already missed you.

You can replicate playing a very smart and combat-proficient dog like Repede from Tales of Vesperia by taking the Pack Hunter theme and simply always remaining in wolf form.

I've also always wanted to make some kind of hybrid character who is a Changeling/Doppleganger with Dissociative Identity Disorder. There's a self-restriction where you can only use certain powers when (a) certain identity (or identities) are "active."

I was more referring to the movement-bonus-as-teleport part. :x Maybe I should've looked at SkirmLords to see how much actual Sliding they provide, though. Considerably less than a Bard, I'm sure.

I mostly just think the feat is cool though.

Champion of the Elves: Dimwitted Half-Ogre possessed by the spirit of a dead Elven paladin hero prince, constantly alternating between Lawful-Good and Chaotic-Stupid personalities, and trying to take back his throne despite his "condition."

Princess Butter-Face: Human princess with vast "tracks of land" is taken captive by Mind-Flayers, who intend to turn her into a "covert" mind-flayer (the parasite devours the brain, but the body isn't mutated). Something goes wrong during the process, and the princess's personality and body remain intact, her face however...

Lazylord gnome with heavy MC investment in Wizard. Basically he is a scholar type, possibly following the group around to chronicle their travels. Every warlord power is lazy, (most of you probably know but for those who do not: it means that the powers grants friends attacks or redirects enemies attacks to other targets, never requiring an attack roll from the warlord himself.) and flavored to be luck on the gnomes part. He is a good ritual caster, providing heavy utility for the party.

Someone just mentioned the warforged warlock in another thread, and that reminded me --

Warren Warburton, the warforged warlock|warlord/warden, PP Warforged Juggernaut, ED Warmaster (MP). Rides a warthog into battle brandishing a warpick, his Mark of Warding dragonmark shining on his metallic forehead.

The crazy thing is, this could actually function in a game as a Str+Cha build.

(( EDIT: though I guess this is more "pun" character ideas than "fun" character ideas ))

I once played a character who liked to take big chances. Mechanically, a Chaos Sorceror with Xaositect theme. I picked utility powers like "If you dislike a d20 roll, add 1d10 but subtract 1d4" and "deflect a ranged attack so that it hits a random creature within 3 squares (including yourself)". I even found a suitable god to worship: Bazim-Gorag.

My attack powers also did sightly different things depending on whether I rolled even or odd, and if I guessed which it would be, I got a Cha (+5) bonus to damage. But if I rolled a 1, the magic blew up in my face and everyone within 5 of me was pushed away. And for some powers I rolled a d6 to see what type of damage it did.

My race was Hengeyokai, but I told the others I was human. Occasionally I would wander off and a sparrow would fly in a moment later.

It was lots of fun, but led to a bit of PvP when I tried to use "Babble" (Xaositect utility that makes the target speak gibberish) on the Orc chieftain we were meant to be negotiating with. The party's Swordmage managed to disrupt the spell, but I was vindicated shortly after when he shouted for some big brutes to come and bash us (exactly what I wanted to prevent).

That fight was meant to be ritualistic and non-lethal, but I accidentally-on-purpose killed the Orc Chieftain with a crit on my daily power and max roll on my extra crit die (49 damage at level 3). The best part of that was that I delayed my go so that the Avenger could do something that would give me a reroll, which turned out well since I rolled a 1 first time, 20 second time.

I was then nearly killed by a hail of javelins from the goblin bystanders, but it was worth it. Then a sympathetic goblin gave me a chance to escape by taking my "corpse" to be "burned" on the other side of the room; observant creatures would have noticed a sparrow appearing phoenix-like out of the smoke.

Oh, and his name was "Hazard".

but here are my two current character
A nine-year-old human Warlock

Dear lord, I'm DMing a game where I got this one. No, really. A nine-year-old human Warlock who scares the pants off for most people looking at his halberd scarred face.

Just wanted to say we connect, total bromance.

A Wizard who was trained specifically to assassinate people. You have no idea how fun it is to look at their power list through the lens of "discrete murder specialist."

A blood thirsty 2'6" halfling with big chops (Mechanically a shifter) that worshiped Erythnul and wielded a 250 pound morning star. He was finally killed after eating the parties paladin (player wanted to reroll anyway, although the the rest of the party didn't know it.:smallfrown:)

A 6 year old good natured human lad who found a staff and was possessed by it. Eventually it changed his alignment but it was fun to explore feeling morally responsible for actions he couldn't control while the staff was actively possessing him.

A cleric of C'thulu who was captured and subjected to magical manicals that forced him into pacifism. Not that it stopped him.... for more then a round.

TS27, a clone from a line that was known for their brilliant insights as well as their penchant for going crazy he was lobotomized for fear that he would kill the original. He suffered heavily from depression due to the continual presence of a golem and a zombie he had created (both party members) that forced him to continually acknowledge the loss of his abilities to create new magic and items. He spent much of his time wasted on magical shrooms.

Finally Zorg (you know from 5th element) a good aligned zombie that continually fought against his hunger for living flesh.

I absolutely adored my blink-knight in a 2 year long RL campaign. Teleporting isn't particularly mechanically superior to other forms of movement (though it is more flexible), but it is so much cooler flavor-wise. I'm digging my current eladrin warlord for the same reasons.

Other fun characters:

a Werebear Slayer - the fluff text of werebears is actually really neat, and claw gloves makes hybrid form really powerful. A human can get Rain of Blows twice an encounter in paragon, which is hugely powerful as well.

A fire elementalist/morninglord fanatical priestess of Amaunator, with a crusader's mace and admixture, dealing fire/cold/radiant damage. Feat intensive, but can reach +50 modifiers before epic for her nova round.

Water Elementalists are similarly interesting, if you add mark of storm and maximize sliding. In paragon, you begin enabling agile opportunist, and have more battle-rearranging power than most controllers, in addition to being a pretty decent striker.

If in paragon, maybe my favorite character I ever built was a combination of two archetypal divine powerhouses - headspin and morninglord, that I called a Sunbinder. It's exceptionally powerful, while feeding in to some really cool flavor, especially as a Deva who perfected the art during the Dawn War. There's even official records of the forces of good binding some of the primordials, and the lack of explanation for such stories feeds perfectly into creating an explanation.

A bright red Warforged monk, he has a bitter rivalry with a fellow Warforged monk who happens to be blue. Eventually the two will have to fight to the death, the battle only ending when one punches the other's head off.

Ah, you're talking about Gok, my half-orc barbarian supercharger. Mentally, he's about the same as a happy five year old. Wears a pink shirt because his mommy made it for him. Items include marbles and colored chalk.

More info on this build?

Here is his level 18 character sheet:
http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=699690

His backstory is one that would be far too grandiose for a game not starting in high paragon.

The basic pieces are: hybrid cleric+invoker, with BCL for AC and either Wrath or Preservation for a massive striker feature (if you have allies with decent MBAs that are willing to take Agile Opportunist, and are in Paragon, Preservation is better. Otherwise Wrath will suffice. Neither feature, even as a hybrid, requires that you use invoker attacks. They trigger off of divine encounter and daily powers.

PP is morninglord, which, combined with a Pelor's sun blessing boon gives you +17 damage vs all targets you have already hit once. Pure Glow lights up the entire board on round 1, though unless you AP, that would mean no dazes.

Cherry pick powers from both sets that AOE daze, and MC fighter for Dizzying Mace. You don't really need any particular secondary stats for power riders, so pump as much as you can into CON for dizzying mace, which gives dazed targets a -CON to attack rolls.

A scary fairy with maximized intimidation skills called juniper. Her bonus on intimidation rolls is improved by feats, powers, items and so on so that it is really high. IG she is using her shadow to create the silhouette of something scary on a wall, but is a really cute small fairy Girl in fact.

First time i tried this i have rolled a natural twenty on my intimidation attempt. :smallcool:

DM just decided to let his solo run away. :amused:
