You don't need a 20 BAB, you only need 16 by level 20 to get the maximum number of iterative attacks. Anything more than that is largely irrelevant.

There is no reason you need to get a BAB of +20. A BAB of +16 with a +4 Attack bonus is just as good. The key is to get the fourth iterative attack which comes with a BAB of +16.

This is similar to how you don't need to get a natural CL of 20. You can get 17 Wizard caster levels and a +3 to your CL from something like Practiced Caster and do just fine. The key is to get 9th level spells.
