This is the dice-rolling thread for EMPIRE! (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=329919), a community world-building game of conquest, scheming and getting rich.


First off, a recap of How To Roll Dice in the spoiler below.
#d# diplays cumulative results. 1d6 gives the results of 1 six-sided die, for example.
1d6 gives you

#d# displays individual dice results, then cumulative.
3d6 gives you [roll1]

[roll]#d#+X displays the cumulative results, with the added modifier (X) totalled into it.
3d6+5 gives you

[roll]#d#-X displays the cumulative results, with the added modifier (X) subtracted from it.
3d6-5 gives you

[roll]#d#b# diplays the cumulative results of the best of the dice (4d6b3, for example, would give cumulative results of the best 3 dice of 4 6-sided dice).
4d6b3 gives you

#d#b# DOES NOT WORK! It only gives the cumulative result of all the dice, not the best # of dice. You have to do the math yourself if you want to see the best-of results, or remove the v from the roller.

[roll]#d#b#+X DOES NOT WORK! It gets ignored.

Negatives results are possible if you give a modifier on the end that can cause a negative. The dice themselves cannot give you negative numbers, even if you were to type in d-40 or something. 1d-40 will do nothing.

d0 always give you 1. 6d0 gives you 6, and so on.

Spaces are NOT your friend in the code. They will result in the whole lot being ignored.

A short recap of dice-rolling rules of EMPIRE!
Attribute rolls for your first ruler (if you are a new player) are five times 1d4, then assign the results to the attributes. After that, you may add +1 to one of them

Attribute rolls for any ruler after your first are five times 1d4 in order (Diplomacy, Military, Curiosity, Faith, Luck). Bonuses to these may apply as per the current rules, see the main OOC thread for that.

Military checks for attacking/defending use 1d10. Add your ruler's Military score (or half of it if your ruler is not leading the army), +1 per technology the troops are using that can be used for war, and a +4 if you have a Winning Tactic that applies to the terrain the battle is fought in. It may be wise to put these bonuses below the roll and not include them in the roll, as some actions may do things like change the location of the battle, prevent units from getting there, and so on.

Diplomacy checks, Curiosity checks, Faith checks and Luck checks all use 1d6+Attribute.

Curiosity checks can be made to steal or reverse engineer technology from your allies/trading partners or regions in which you've got a military unit--either one you are currently in the process of conquering/colonizing, or by sending a military unit to a region to specifically take the technology you want. You do not need Curiosity 10 for this. Curiosity 10 is only for creating a new technology yourself.

Faith checks can be made to convert people by making an opposed Faith check against the ruler of the region whose people you wish to convert. If you wish to convert your own people, or the ruler of the region you wish to convert is willing to allow you to do that, the people will be more open to it but not completely. You will succeed in converting them with a result of 7 or higher.

If you have a secret action that does not involve making Diplomacy, Military, Curiosity or Faith checks, and the result is not certain to be a success, it involved a Luck check. Dice rolling does not function in PMs, so you just make the roll here, link the results in your secret action PM and include what modifiers apply for a final result.

...Also, don't put your rolls inside spoilerblocks. They mess up your rolling. I forgot about that, which is why the example rolls in the spoilerblock above don't show up.

...And there is also no EDIT button in this forum, keep that in mind.

+1 per Food resource, -1 if without Good Food resources.
-2 If not satisfying Import Necessity.
-1 Per turn involved in war the last five turns. (One turn not counted.)
+1 or +2 if having put actions that promote population increase. (+1 for a few actions, +2 for a lot -- this is more estimation than anything, because I'm not checking all actions of the past few rounds to check)

Rolls are only for regions that have been in the game prior to Round Four. This means that regions that entered the game in Round Four or Round Five do not yet get a population increase.

I believe those don't involve any tech, since they're just a combination of goods. Tech bonuses require technology advancements, from a curiosity 10 action.

Whatever the case may be PAIN is being led by Loki since he has the highest Military modifier and PAIN is going to stop the Salterri, in Grrmanhil or Hrathan Tuor, wherever they are.
