If you had to fully and solely only use money as a focus for magic; are there any PRC's that allow for that sort of merchant/rich man feel of playing?

There's the Merchant Prince Prestige Class in Power of Faerun.

It would be interesting to calculate how much would it cost for a commoner to completely emulate all the abilities of, say,a wizard, using custom slotless magic items.
In a way such a commoner would be your class.

Someone did a calculation like this, once. IIRC, it was a WBL-based price on a day of being a Wizard, based on a custom staff. Can't find it at the moment, but someone else might remember.

Don't specifically recall what you're talking about, but Bubs The Commoner was an experiment in using wealth and Feats to make a useful Commoner for a real adventuring party.

It should also be pointed out that The Cube, from the old Test of Spite here, was piloted by a Commoner (mostly because the creator was tired of looking up sources after the wealthomancy necessary to pull of The Cube).
