Your Ka-tet find itself on detached duty to Queen Sirshpet of the district known as Upper Delta. she is a matronly kobold whose once glaring white scales have faded to grey. Her, her royal guard, and an avatar of Thoth are visiting a Blue Village. After a crusade by a son of Apep was but down by efforts of the Sun King's army and less direct hostility from the Setites, the local barbarous races are disunified, and both Drow and civilized envoys and missionaries have made headway. The ruling pair of this farming village of psionic goblins have agreed to convert to the true faith, in a gala ceremony, in exchange for expanded markets for their rice and protection from marauding Setite Orcs. The avatar of Thoth is here to endow them with holy office, and the Queen is here to show that the civilized races welcome all beings, even psionic creatures and former enemies, under the banner of the Sun God.
As you approach the fortified portion of the village, a young Blue goblin greets you: "Help, help! a Set-beast has attacked. Save us! Save us, clerics of Pharaoh!"

Upon hearing the call for help from the goblins, Sapham-Tet powered herself up, and peered across the village to see if she could find the creature. "Where is this creature?" she asked, drawing her bow and speaking a command word to ignite the weapon.

The nomad and the ardent walk wearily towards you. "Thank you, heroes. We made the right choice in trusting Pharaoh! The creature was summoned by an Orcish noctumancer we had dealing with during the... unpleasantness. His Setite magic allows him to become invisible and to teleport, but he probably is nearby.

the royal guard arrive, escorting the avatar and the queen. The queen says, "We will be safe now. Lord Thoth will consecrate the land, barring Setite magic until noon tomorrow. The Orcish scum wouldn't dare attack with such a disadvantage! Go, hunt down the noctumancer!"

The unpleasantness is that most of the tribes in the area were swayed by the Apepite crusaders several years ago, though it is unlikely a simple farming village fielded many or dedicated combatants.

The noctumancer is nearly dead, now. Then he does... something. You aren't sure. Then, a moment later, the leopard tackles his invisible form, and finishes him.

Treasure: Amulet of natural armor +2, gloves of dexterity +2, cape of charisma +4, psicrown of the discerning watcher (100 charges), [roll0] worth of uncut gemstones.

The Setite tribe he came from is probably further into the caverns. Do you turn back and check on the royal procession?

Kane will instruct his Cohort and Followers from the Leadership feat to guard the village while the party goes underground.

"Indeed. Let us hurry, There may be more here, but then this may have been a diversion." Edom strips the nocturnomancer of his gear, both as evidence of how well equipped he was and to prevent his allies from claiming it before they returned. psicrowns in PF come in lesser, greater, and true types, the scale defining the PP spend to charges gained when recharging them. What grade is this one?

You rush back to the village. The avatar of Thoth has finished consecrating the ground, making a Setite attack unlikely in the next day or so. The Blues have re-gathered in the parade grounds for the ceremonial investment of the Ardent and Nomad as clerics. You watch this ceremony with pride, both for making it happen and helping advance the cause of Pharaoh in this region. Afterwards, you can get intelligence from the Blues.
The Nomad says "Those Orcs were the principle followers of Apep when he was incarnated as a Bugbear twenty years ago. But after his crusade was put down, they betrayed the Crawling Chaos for the Desert Walker, while we put our faith in the Living Sun. They are all sniveling cowards, but some of them have powerful magic, like that leader you slew. It seems unlikely they would attack with one of their most powerful warriors slain, but, if you launched a punitive expedition, you would never have a better chance to hurt them, perhaps enough that the Drow stop subsidizing them and they are forced to surrender.

Edom shrugs. "Another cult, lashing out, clinging to darkness when the light is at their doorstep. I stopped trying to understand them centuries ago, stopped counting them not long after that. We ought strike. Another will come along and replace them eventually, but it may buy peace for a time."

The Ardent insists that you stay the night and join in the festivities. In the morning, with their powers refreshed from sleep, they and the village's other manifesters and warriors well join you in the raid on the Orcish village.
But, to set your mind at ease, she brings out a powerstone and uses it to create an astral construct, which she set to do a quick patrol of the villages borders. It has hardly gone any distance outside the consecrated ground, however, when a Drow spy, spooked by the misapprehension that he was detected, attacks and dispatches the low-level construct.

As the drow sees you barreling toward her, she screams (this is how you know it is a she even at a distance when elves are androgynous looking) and runs. She trips over a rock. She tries to get up, and collapses on a broken ankle. By the time you get to her location she is sobbing.

"Finish it then, it's still better than I'd get if I went home after screwing up this pathetically on my first assignment."

Do you kill her, or try to bring her back to camp?
Edit:
Something to consider:
The drow take prisoners and are willing to exchange them, either for other prisoners or for concessions during times of relative truce. Unfortunately for the Drow POW's, their fate upon repatriation can vary wildly based on their worth relative to what was given up. This poor girl would probably be Dridered, and her family would be shamed, ruining the marriage prospects of any of her brothers. Perhaps there is a third path...

Athaleon

Kane spoke up after a short pause. Here was an opportunity for a convert. It would be a major breakthrough if it could be proven that even Drow could be brought into the light.

And what choice did he have? He would otherwise have to kill her, or send her back, which was even worse.

"I'm not going to kill you, nor will we send you back to your merciless kin, who revel in cruelty. You're coming with us, and you will answer our questions."

"Take her back to the camp."

Feathersnow

She goes limp and you easily carry her back to camp. The Nomad drinks in power from one of his dorje to warp her into a holding cell. Like most holding cells in psionic societies, it has no doors, but you can watch her through a barred window.

Kane stands outside the cage and makes sure the spy has his attention before he starts questioning her. He has waited until all members of his party are present before questioning, as much for the intimidation factor as the chance that someone else will catch some subtlety he missed.

His first question is simple: "How many more spies are out there?"

Feathersnow
2014-03-10, 07:02 PM
What? Spies? Just me, I wasn't spying on the village, I was spying on you. You killed Lord Filth-Weaver, who was a servant of Apep during the last war. I needed to see who had done the deed, to report back to the Sisters Who Stand Against the Worm. The Drow will not risk themselves to liberate a village this mired in the false teachings of the Hawk without help, and the Orcs' loyalty to Set is as papyrus-thin as was their loyalty to the Madness Worm. Any other Drow in the area are loyal to the Army of Set directly, and really don't care about one orc more or less. But I've been suspecting him of contact with the next incarnation of Apep... She trails off, realizing she may have said too much.

Before the questioning, Edom speaks to Kane, "I sense you have thoughts on the matter of the spy. I will help as far as I am able, but I would caution you not to set your hopes high. Few of her kin have turned from the dark in my long days."

He listens carefully as the prisoner speaks, weighing her words. sense motive is +21

Feathersnow
2014-03-11, 08:49 AM
Edom comes to realize that the Drow really is more concerned with stopping the forces of Apep than the forces of Pharaoh. And you already knew that the Orc was duplicitous and worked with Apep in the past. Since Apep is reborn periodically in mortal guise, everything she says is plausible. The forces of Set hate Apep as much as the forces of Horus. Apep wants to destroy what Set merely wishes to usurp.

The only way my people would take me back is if I redeem myself in battle against the worm, and the only way you'll let me do that is if I give a binding oath. And the only deity both sides trust is Thoth, who judges all according to their merits.
