Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 321 through 330.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283609).

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34791)

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on February 25th, 4pm EST. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, :haley: 316 The Moment of Truth (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0316.html) walked up to the podium and said, "S eih? S bnixvnb mix eixuq nwya daah cszp ig ciuyshv zomtbivowkc dm hie," with the audience clapping in a polite, if confused manner, as it left the stage.

That was last week though. Now it is time to embark on a Road to Adventure. A Road to Excitement! A Road to Enlightenment!!

Or, at the very least, a Road toward Winning....

A bunch of nice strips... I'm torn between 323 (nice to see Roy act as leader, and the neverending struggle between V and Belkar), and 327 (Haley was a Genius!).
327 it is.

Hmmm...#328.

Oh man! This round is full of classics! Elan making the mounts disappear by pointing out the party shouldn't have them! (A really classic joke that D&D and other Tabletop roleplayers should get.) Belkar pushing V into the Owlbear! The Hydra! Goblin Dan's first appearance! The test of the Mind! The Oracle and his rubber duckie! The Oracle's payment chart! Oh man, which should I choose?

Hmm... maybe I should ask these two fellows standing by the road.

Hey guys standing by the road, which comic do you think I should vote for?

:smallmad: "Thou shouldst read yon sign!"

:smallyuk: "I say thee nay! Read not the sign!"

Sign: "These two guys will answer any question but... ah screw it, this is Knights and Knaves. You're on your own buddy."

Hmm... guys by the road, would either of you mind if I punched you in the face?

:smalleek: "Oh, no! Another psycho like that red-haired witch!"

:smallfrown: "Please, punch me in the face! I don't beg you! My movie star looks are unimportant to me!"

Got it. Okay "knight", which do you recommend?

:smalleek: "Please, vote for 327, just not the face!"

That was easy. 327

:smallmad: "You were no help at all, again!"

:smallyuk: "You're the boss of me!"

:smallmad: "Shut up!"

:smallyuk: "Yes, you shouldn't shut up!"

ETA: Porthos, could you provide the translation for the cryptogram when you tally the winners for this round? :smallconfused:

Really strong batch. Sunken Valley / The Oracle are just great.

I initially wanted to vote for 321 (because who hasn't experienced the same at the gaming table :smallwink:), but in the end Goblin Dan's story deserves a vote.

So 326 - Getting Ahead in Business it is.

If no one solves it, sure.

...

I've been waiting to make that gag for a while now. :smallcool:

I've been waiting to make that gag for a while now. :smallcool:"I won? I thought you would have been sick of solving cryptograms by now."

(Evidently, I am not.)

Oh, also, I have to vote for 326 in honor of Goblin Dan's ingenuity.

What a great bunch of strips. We've got the mounts, Vaarsuvius and Belkar's prank war, Haley's own way to solve that particular puzzle, and the Oracle, one of my favorite characters.
In the end, I choose 327.

327 is nice, yes, but 326 has a fond place in my heart as the first strip I remember seeing in OOTS.

330 is tops, but 329 & 321 have honorable mention.

325. Elan & Belkar bonding, plus Elan being even more of a toddler than usual.

:elan:Do it again! Do it again!
:belkar: Hell yes!

Meanwhile, 327 never sat well with me. As frustrated as she was by her aphasia, I didn't like Haley shooting an innocent person in the foot to save herself from an inconvenience. Seemed out of character.

Eh, might as well go with 327 I guess.

Oh man, this run is awesome. If it was up to me, I might pick multiple Best of the Hundred candidates from these ten strips alone.

Nonetheless, this is an easy choice. 328: The Test of the Heart, hands down. Absolutely classic.

Highly torn between globin dan's and the test of the mind. I think I'll go with 327, as not only Haley kicks amazing butt (to V's chagrin) but also the Giant manages to subvert a very old cliche.

So many instant classics here, I've got to give the vote to the ultimately unimportant Goblin Dan. #326

Wow, some good strips. 326 makes a very good case, but my vote goes to 323.

327. It's a slightly more violent version of how I suggested solving that same problem when it was first posed to me, so it's near and dear to my heart.

327 gets my vote.

Just out of curiosity, are you just doing 10 per round to catch up to where Nazzo left off, or are you going to stick to 10 per round even after we reach that point?

Planning on sticking with 10 per round all the way through the end. I've done the math, and as long as we don't catch up by 1000, I think we're good.

I'll decide whether or not to keep going past 1000 when we get closer to that number. I like the idea of the Stick Awards having a bit of a retrospective feel to it. That is, it's not an immediate That Was Awesome/That was Suxxors visceral thing, but more of a reflection in the fullness of time.

323 for V and Belkar's dialogue.

I agree. Maybe wait until the strip is done to do everything after 1000

Also, ADD joke, 325

Whoops! Lost track of time today. Well, a little late is better than a lot! :smalltongue:

So, quickly, lots of really great ones here. Could go any different directions, but I think I will go for 325 just because it was in fact so friggin' cool. :smallcool:

And with that....

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

:haley: 327 The Test of the Mind (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0327.html) is the winner this week. It now moves on to the Best of the Hundred tournament.

Voting may be closed (hey, I'm behind), but I have to put in a vote for 327 anyway. It was, if memory serves, the first OOTS strip that I read.
