Alright Playground, I've found my next build challenge: The Three Musketeers! Pull from books and movies (I feel the movies might be more useful for our goals). The three gentlemen to build are (wikipedia links for basic backgrounding)

Minor potential spoiler warning

Aramis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aramis): The religious man. Incredibly loyal to friends. Possibly a mix of Paladin and Crusader

Porthos: the extrovert, usually portrayed as the most humorous of the group. I feel Warblade's flavor is quite fitting (show off, but with skill to back it up)

Athos: oldest of the group, and I've always seen him as the closest to the leader.

Requirements
1. No casting. They are warriors, not mages.
2. Must be proficient (as in capable, not rules-proficiency) with both rapiers and basic firearms (DMG flintlocks and muskets, specifically, treated as martial for the era)
3. Ideally their builds should be similar in style, but different in execution (I've already given a few of how I feel they would be built)
4. Human. No templates, no heritages, just humans. Not much of a restriction (humans are good), but it has to be said.
5. Moderately skillful, at least in acrobatic skills.
6. Ideally should work better with each other than with random people.

Note: for mundane classes, I allow this tweak list (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=275054) (it makes the 2 level fighter dip some of you might want to take a bit better)

I feel like Pathfinder's gunslingers and rules for firearms might work better for this than 3.5. Perhaps each one of them could have a different gunslinger archetype or multiclass with rogue, fighter or paladin.

Since they're fundamentally low level characters in a low level, low magic world - at most 5th level IMO - builds can be pretty simple. Fighter 1 to cover their minimal military training, Rogue or Scout X to cover their skills. Aramis has no mystic powers, he's just religious and maybe has a higher wisdom than the others.

I'm liking the Warblade idea... Diamond mind specialists, with a hint of white raven, perhaps... And martial weapon proficiency or a level of fighter to pick up the guns...

I'd stay with ToB.

Aramis: Crusader/Cleric/Refluffed RKV.

Porthos: Bard/Warblade. Song of the White Raven.

Athos: Warblade. I'd say Eternal Blade if they were Elves, but they're not. Really, straight Warblade works for him.

Remember that all three have access to White Raven. Synergize the crap out of that.

Alternatively, keep them all Crusaders, but with different foci:
- Aramis: As above, Crusader/Cleric(/RKV), focus on Devoted Spirit.
- Athos: Crusader, possibly something more tactical (maybe Fighter +ACFs?), focus on White Raven.
- Porthos: Bardsader, Stone Dragon. (Because everyone needs a hobby.)

Crusader has the added benefit of having that hint of "knight in shining armor" that the Musketeers - or more accurately, the Royal Musketeers of the Guard - should have.
