What are your thoughts on allowing an Archivist PC to ban two magic schools of magic to specialize in one in the same manner as a specialist wizard, both fluff-wise as well as balance-wise?

Also, would you allow them to take the Master Specialist except with divine casting? (Ends up losing a lot of archivist class features, some BAB, low fort saves, and HP)

Sure, but change the school that can't be banned to Evocation.

If an Archivist wants to nerf themselves by banning all the cleric and druid Divination spells, then I'd just laugh at them.

I'm not even sure if that's the worst school on an archivist. I don't think folks tend to look at spell schools that much on divine casters, mostly for this reason. For example, on the druid list, I don't recall seeing all that much high power enchantment, illusion, or necromancy (though I may be mistaken. As I mentioned, I don't check this that much), but evocation has stuff like control winds on it, and that spell is some sweet business. The power of various schools may be different when considering divine spells as opposed to arcane ones.

Evocation is also the school of the best spell in the game, Miracle. On the other hand, Conjuration is even more essential than it is for wizards, since the one thing divine casters can do unambiguously better than arcane is healing.

I would consider it, but if it were allowed, I'd bump their standard allotment of spells-per-day down to four from five, and grant them an extra focused-school slot, as is the case for a specialist wizard.

And yeah, since Evocation is the school containing Miracle, which is arguably the greatest of the Greater Reality Benders, I can't see a single reason to drop Evocation.

Also Divine Power is Evocation and I know there are other, similarly surprising Divine evocation spells (Desecrate).
