How do vampires work in d&d? Is durkon explicitly a special case? was malack aware of this? Do evil souls inhabit all newly sired vampires? Should we have been expecting this? Why wouldn't his new soul automatically have the accent?

There are a few conflicting ideas as to how vampires' souls work in D&D.

Durkon has not been confirmed to be a special case.

Malak could not have been aware of this, since "this" isn't necessarily correct.

In OOTS world, yes. In D&D, it depends on the sourcebook you use.

There was ample evidence for multiple interpretations, some people expected this, others didn't.

Because the new soul was in all probability not raised in an area where people spoke in the same accent that Durkon was raised, and would therefore shape his words differently than the real Durkon.

There are already two (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=332161) other (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=332223) threads discussing this.

This thread has the exact same topic as this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=332223), which predates it. Rather than merge them and cause confusion, I'm locking this one and ask that everyone take their discussion over to that one.
