So, I have been on a bit of a pokémon Digimon monster training game binge lately, and like anytime I get sucked into a computerized RPG I try to track down a pen and paper game with a similar feel.

But, then I realized that I have never heard of a board game that really took on the monster Raising aspect. I have a simple pokémon board game but in terms of complexity its like comparing Risk to Warhammer.

So I was wondering if any of you lovely folks with much more experience then I have have ever played a tabletop game where you actually had to train, teach, or otherwise manage an unruly beast.

While I am looking for a game system that is actually built around this idea, I love a good story so if you have had entertaining experiences with Summons and pets from other games feel free to post those as well.

Monsters and Other Childish Things (http://www.arcdream.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=15) is right up your alley. It's not quite monster training - it's more Calvin and Hobbes, but with Hobbes replaced by an eldrich horror with a propensity for very thorough violence.

There's an actual Pokemon tabletop RPG (http://s4.zetaboards.com/Pokemon_Tabletop), completely free to download! I am in four games right now and it is GREAT.
