So for some reason I let one of my players play as a homebrew Sonic Warrior class.

http://dungeons.wikia.com/wiki/Sonic_Warrior_%283.5e_Class%29
http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Sonic_Warrior_%283.5e_Class%29

Probably because it is a pretty hilarious class to play, a warrior class based on sonic and madness?! Two of my fav things!
Anyways the player is now horribly nerfed because it seems that the class is more of an AoE class and whenever the party goes into battle he is usually nearby the other party members so he has to limit himself.

For story purposes the players ran into three Vashar and they weilded unusual weapons, one of those weapons I had in mind specifically for this guy and as I expected no one in the party wanted it so he quickly snatched it up.

It is a multi-hinged sword... along the blade partway there is a hinge that allows the sword to swing, then further down the blade there is another.
What can I do to this sword to make it useable? Maybe have it heal twice as much damage to the wielder that it deals to the wielder? Maybe have it be animated and allow it to move itself? Maybe have it be somehow mechanical/steampunk (the Vasharans they ran into were using steampunk technology)?

I am open to listen to any and every idea. Below is a terrible version of what the sword looks like, of sorts. The hinges go both ways and are obviously not pictures perfectly.

Maybe it should just be swordchucks, yo.

Maybe it should just be swordchucks, yo.To be honest, that was what influenced the design.

Is this an exotic weapon?

Is this an exotic weapon?

I imagine that it would have to be, but it is entirely unstatted atm.

I was thinking this would be more like Ivy's weapon from Soul Calibur (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7vdhREW-qM) where it could break apart into fragments and reassemble.

Token joke: "The Medicus brand Longsword - helping you improve your swing since 1995."

More practically, this seems like it would be better served being tweaked into a Chain-sword. (See: Soul caliber reference above). Give it Kusari-gama mechanics, only instead of kama/chain, as short sword/as spiked chain?

Well, I'd do it as an Exotic Weapon. Ignore what other Exotic Weapons are like, because almost none of them are worth a feat. Here you can make an Exotic Weapon that IS worth a feat.

One option if you have extending chains: Treating this as a template that can be applied to Longswords, Greatswords, or any straight blade...
It's a reach weapon that can strike adjacent foes. This is finessable. Everything else is the same. (Can't be used to Trip, no bonus to Disarm).

Like a Flail But Better: Treating this as a template that can be applied to Longswords, Greatswords, or any straight blade...
+2 on Disarms and it can be used to Trip. It's finesseable. If you hit by 5 or more you can cleave into an adjacent foe as per the Cleave feat even if you didn't drop the target. You must have the Cleave Feat to do this. This can continue if you have Great Cleave, but you can't hit the same foe twice.

That's probably fine.

I was personally imagining something more like Jakotsu's sword from InuYasha lol

Where did you find these templates? Especially that second one, I like them.

Do some research into the Urumi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urumi), which is likely the closest thing you'll get to your idea. Outside of Ivy from Soul Calibur that is.

It's called a spinning sword in Secrets of Sarlona. It's like a one-handed spiked chain.

That is exactly the fighting style I pictured for this... :smalleek:

Actually made me think of Crows Bill from the Ancient Blades trilogy.

Perhaps it avoids partial cover?

I like that, I'll add that.

Would work best if it were a multi-hinged single-bladed sword, with a curved edge like a katana. Gets much better cutting power that way and you aren't slicing into yourself anytime you want to do nunchaku-type moves with it. If you're sticking to the initial design of two hinges along the blade that is. If you're throwing that out the window, then disregard me.

The guy wielding it is literally insane so either works.
