View Full Version : CHA ability bonus races?

I've looked around but I can't seem to find a list of all races that grant high ability scores. LA isn't an issue but races with an LA of 0-2 simply don't seem to do the trick. I'm attempting to beat a +8 Charisma modifier and I have 15 levels to invest class-wise.

Can anybody help?

[3.5] LA +1 & LA +2 Player Race List (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=189980)

Try those out.

What sources are allow?

Magic-Blooded +0LA template from Dragon Magazine 306 gives +2Cha, -2 Wis. I'd start there if magazines are allowed.

All sources (apart from the D&D wiki) are allowed. I appreciate the link to the +1 & +2 LA player race list, but I've viewed it already and, as I said, nothing seems to do the trick. I meant that I need something that gives a big bonus, like... I don't know, a half-dragon pixie. Which is sadly already taken, so I'm seeking out something new.

Plus 8 is.. mm, I guess you're already looking at the Succubus, then?

The Magic-Blooded template (Dragon Magazine something-or-other) gives +2 Cha/-2 Wis/some other irrelevant modifications. The Phrenic template gives +4 Cha and a pile of handy psi-like abilities for LA +2. Unseelie Fey (Dragon Compendium) is +2 Cha, some other stat adjustments, and a small handful of other useful/interesting abilities. Draconic Template is +2 for LA 1.

Assuming LA really is not a problem, a.. Draconic Phrenic Magic-Blooded Unseelie Succubus would have a racial Cha bonus of (+16 +4 +2 +2 +2) = +26. Assuming a 10 base score you'd have a stat modifier of +13.

It'd also be a pretty bizarre creature, but AFAIK it's a legal one - none of the templates conflict with each other.

HEAVILY considering this. Thanks! What book is the Succubus in?

Seriously?

Monster manual 1 man.

Succubus has 6 racial HD and 7 LA though, so unless you only want 2 class levels and 8HD overall at level 15, you might want to reconsider your options.

I should've been more clear, my apologies. I was wondering if there was a book which showed how to create a Succubus character like the Races of Stone book shows how to create a Feral Gargun.

Check Savage Species. It requires updating to 3.5 (in particular, the SLAs, Spell Resistance, and Alternate Form abilities need attention), but there is a Succubus monster class on pages 195-197.

In general, though, you should know how to translate monster stats to race stats if you want to play a monster, since it's a pretty important skill in general, and quite easy if you know how it works. Have you read my Monster Handbook before?

I have not, this is the first time I've heard of your monster handbook and it is also the first time I've ever attempted playing a monster.

What do you want this character to do, other than just have a high Cha?

A variant Half-Fiend (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060630x&page=1) based on a Succubus would give something like Str +2, Dex +2, Con +2, Int +2, Cha +8, for a +4 LA that could be gradually gained (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20031010a) and bought off (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/reducingLevelAdjustments.htm) as it's gained.

For example, make a Magic-Blooded Unseelie Fey Lessar Aasimar, for +6 Cha at +0 LA. Start with one point of LA from Half-Fiend as above, and after gaining three class levels you buy that off. Your next level is spent in the next point of LA from Half-Fiend, after three more class levels that's bought off, etc. By the time your party is level 13, you've got the entire thing bought off. That's a total of +14 Cha, plus you gain gain a level of Dragon Devotee for another +2, and it's not cutting into any of the class levels you take, so the character will actually be able to do something.

You can get +8 with +0 LA by slapping on Unseelie Fey Magic Blooded Primordial Giant Menta Cyclopean. There are other stat adjustments, but hey, we're already past anthropomorphic bat levels of cheesy stat boosting goodness.

This seems like a great idea, to be honest. My character is going to be queen of a city and as such I want her (if succubus) to be capable of diplomacy. I have a personal knight appointed to me too, so combat wouldn't be a huge issue. As a Dread Pirate I'll also be capable of giving morale bonuses to my army.

Don't forget this vital fact:

A character with level adjustment and racial HD might have fewer skill points than a simpler character of equivalent ECL. For example, given a base charisma of 14 a 1st level Pixie will have +9 diplomacy, where a lesser aasimar of the same ECL (5) would have a +11 bonus, and (if a caster) access to spells to boost that even higher.

If you want the charisma for spells, higher DCs and bonus spells never come close to more spell levels.

EDIT:
The half-fey template class (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040213a) might do better than half-fiend, especially because it gets you charm monster at will.

Can you use the petal as a playable race, that'll get you a +8 cha with I believe +2 LA and 1 RHD iirc.

I do believe that the first RHD is dropped for class levels.

There's a succubus monster class, although if you're going there your GM will likely want to retool it to match the 3.5 succubus and besideswhich you can't multiclass out of the succubus levels until you reach the same ECL as a regular succubus.
