The road is very well build, it seems as if it is made from one solid piece of rock, the lanf around is filled with hills and rocky plateua's.

Drake steps out and looks around.

The weather is a bit chilly, but not enough to make you shiver and it looks like the sun will shine more brightly soon, just a few clouds in front of it.

Ekrath checks his map

It's a straight walk for a few miles and then through a large tunnel to the other side of a mountain, from there a large stair upwards and you're at the city.

With upbeat anime music playing Ekrath begins running down the road

Strangely enough this hammer is said to have something to do with armor. You see this is supposedly the hammer of the dwarven gods and we're looking for the armor to go with it.

Really lad? Well most kings left behind a lot of well crafted artifacts if you got your hands on one you should feel honored, we can't forge weaposn and armor like we used to...

Yeah I've heard about the ancient skill of the dwarves. But this hammer here is known as the Hammer of Vengeance and we want to learn more of it's legend.

You can't teleport in or near the city teleportation is blocked in a 100 miles radius, the only way in is through the tunnel, the ancient dwarves were a rather paranoid people...

Hmm. What if I called upon Saito Jaishan to place us there? I doubt any magic block could stop Divine intervention.

Laddy, I doubt that will work, that city was build by the Dwarven gods themselves, I doubt your god would want to get in a fight with them, but if you want you can try...

Drake shrugs and begins walking again.

Ekrath starts running

Drake rolls his eyes and begins running as well. Despite Ekrath's head start, he soon catches up and begins to pass the other man.

You come infront of the tunnel and you see a small camping site near you, it seems like a good place to set up camp.

((in other words, I have to go :P ))

Ekrath begins to pitch camp

You hear sounds coming from the tunnel, but they seem distant and not threatening, it doesn't take long for you to set up camp and once you are done, the place feels very serene.

Drake nods and turns in.

Drake turns over in his sleep, his player wondering when this thing is going to continue.

((Sorry my internet connection is going awry, it should be fixed by monday/tuesday, but untill then my connection is going to be rather unstable))

The only thing going wrong with Ekrath's shift are the voices, for the rest it goes over smoothly.

Drake sits up and starts his shift.

The first few hours nothing happens, but after that the old dwarven man whom you saw earlier enters the camp.

Drake watches him carefully. You again, eh?

Aye laddy, so you two are going through that tunnel?

[Lord Iames Osari]

Drake nods. We are.

[Deus Mortus]

Would you two mind bringing this here old dwarf along? It's a tad bit dangerous and me swordarm isn't what it's used to be.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Drake hesitates. After a moment, he answers, I don't see why we shouldn't.

[Deus Mortus]

Ah thank ye laddy, can I perhaps offer ye a drink?

[Lord Iames Osari]

Only a small one. I need my wits about me.

[Deus Mortus]

The dwarf passes you a wineskin, In that case, ye might wanna take a small sip from tha' it's said to make beards burn.

Drake takes a small, cautious sip. He coughs. Strong stuff.

You feel it burn down your throat, it seems to invigorate you.

Aye, though me nanny used to drink even a stouter drink.

Drake shakes his head. Dwarves...

The dwarf laughs, Well between you an' me, ye humans ain't that awesome either.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Drake smirks. Did I say we were?

[Deus Mortus]

Hah, most of ye humans think ye are, but it's good to see there are some sane among ye who see all the races are pretty nutty.

Drake smiles and looks out into the night, wary of any other approaching creatures.

[Deus Mortus]

The shift passes by as you idly chatter with the dwarf and the sunrise basks the land around you in an orange light.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Drake wakes up Ekrath. The sun is up. Come on, let's get going.

[Raistlin1040]

I was born a drow remember? We sleep during the day. But whatever

Drake blinks. So why were we stopping for the night?

Because you were tired. And because the accursed god of plots made us.

They begin breaking camp.

The dwarf helps and it's done fast.

Drake starts off in the direction they had been traveling.

Ekrath motions for the Dwarf to follow and then walks as well.

You enter the dark tunnel and you notice that you can't see anything through the darkness.

((Nope, the wizard did it <_< ))

Drake pulls out a strange device, roughly the size of a pair of fingers, and clicks it. A light spell activates, coming from the tip of the device.

You can now see about 10 ft around you.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Drake looks around and heads forward.

[Deus Mortus]

The dwarf follows him while rummaging around in his bag.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Drake looks back at Ekrath. Are you coming? I want to get this over with, I have some girls back in Town who're missing me.

[Raistlin1040]

Sure.*rolls eyes*
Ekrath follows.

[Deus Mortus]

As deeper as you go, the more noises you hear and the louder they become.

Drake continues through the tunnel, doing his best to ignore the noises.

A dark tentacle shoots forth and wraps around Drake's leg.

((Sorry, developed an unexpected nosebleed))

Drake draws his rapier and stabs at the tentacle.

[Deus Mortus]

((You shouldn't bang your nose against the wall :P ))

The stab hardly hurts the tentacle and it starts to pull you into the darkness.

Lightning flares around Drake's blade, and he stabs again.

[Deus Mortus]

You hear a shriek and the tentacle starts pulling harder you fall prone and begin to slide towards the darkness, the light source dropped from you hand.

((wait for Raistlin to post until you post anymore actions, give him some time to react))

[Raistlin1040]

Ekrath acctivates divine intervention and uses true seeing to spot the monster. He then proceeds to attack it.

The Trueseeing fails to penetrate the darkness, but the hit connects and the tentacle withdraws, moments later instead of one one tentacle, there are 2 dozen...

((Also turn posting from now on, first Drake, then me, then Raistling, then me and then the cycle starts again, this is going to be a rather heavy combat situation))

((It's not really from a book. When a great danger approaches a follower a diety can choose to intervene. As Ekrath is 20 paladin AND 20 fvrd soul he is ranked very highly among his god))

((alright, figured it was a spell))

[Lord Iames Osari]

Drake scrambles to his feet and pulls out his dagger in his off hand, which he wields like a shield. He attacks one of the approaching tentacles with his rapier.

[Deus Mortus]

The tentacle once more bounces of the thick shadowy skin, the dwarf finally found what he wanted in his bag and grabs a small gray orb which he throws above his head, it floats in the air and gives off a strong light, illuminating 30 feet around it, but more importantly, the shadowy skin seems to dissipate from the tentacles, leaving only the bones within it.

Ekrath drops a fireball on the creature.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Drake takes up a defensive stance.

[Deus Mortus]

The fire seems to only lightly scorch the creature and a dozen tentacles attack Ekrath, completely wrapping him, the other dozen tries to do the same to Drake, but he manages to dodge it.

[Raistlin1040]

Ekrath struggles, but can't break free.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Drake attacks several of the tentacles holding Ekrath.

[Deus Mortus]

Drake is able to peel some of the tentacles off, but it isn't enough, Ekrath is dragged within the darkness, the dwarf pulls his sword and takes Drake by the arm, pulling Drake with him towards the tentacles, the light following. As you walk you notice a large amount of remains surrounding you.

Ekrath projects his soul into the divine realms. He's not dead, just roaming the plane.
Hello Ekrath. It's good to see you.
Are you Saito Jaishan?
That I am. Let's see how your friend deals with the monster.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Drake attacks more tentacles, leaping in for a quick thrust, then retreating.

[Deus Mortus]

You hear shrieks at each strike, but you still can't see Ekrath.

[Lord Iames Osari]

((Are we skipping Raistlin?))

[Deus Mortus]

((For now, I'll tell you when we quit and Raistlin needs to react))

Drake continues his hit-and-run tactics.

All the tentacles withdraw after a few good hits, Come on laddy, let's get that friend of yours!

[Lord Iames Osari]

Drake goes to Ekrath and checks to see if he's alright.

[Deus Mortus]

You find Ekrath entangled by twenty bony tentacles in front of enormous skull, its mouth lined with multiple rows of sharp giant teeth, you can't see behind the skull, but from the few details you are able to make out, you're pretty sure you don't want to see.

Drake sighs and starts attacking again, assuming that the thing is still active.

[Deus Mortus]

Another tentacle strikes from the darkness, pinning you to the ground, but the dwarf grabs a large glowing axe and throws it at the tentacles, the creature shrieks and let's Ekrath fall.

((and now it's bedtime for me, good night))

Drake goes to Ekrath and checks if he's aright.

Ekrath's eyes are white and his body is cold

Umm Lord Jaishan I should probably get back to my body.
Alright.

Ekrath wakes up.

Before Ekrath can answer a tentacle strikes down hard, you were both able to dodge it, but because of the cloud of dust you can't see each other and don't know how the other is doing.

Drake attacks the tentacle.

[Deus Mortus]

Your attack does nothing, these tentacles seem stronger then before, you look at the wall and you see more skulls appearing, seemingly morphing out of the wall, though none as big as the first, who easily towers above most houses.

Drake attempts to leap over the tentacle and get to where Ekrath is.

[Raistlin1040]

Ekrath draws his blade and smiles a devilish smile. He jumps into the fray, smiting evil.

You roll over only to see Ekrath storming, his smite evil attacks seemingly useless.

Aggh! Divine intervention!
You will feel the cold embrace of death foul creature!
Ekrath/Saito attack the creature with god-like strength

The attacks bounce off with almost no effect except a small dent, as you attack you notice a magical almost living darkness within the creatures always opened mouth, it seems to call you, beckon you but as you look closer you can also see it wants to devour you.

Aggh! I won't lose this fight! I have divine power!
Ekrath/Saito conjures a huge beam of pure light energy and sends it spiraling towards the creature's mouth.

((Damnit, you figured out the puzzle too soon <_< ))

The light pierces the darkness and a horrible shriek is heard, slowly the eyes of the creature light up and the skull is starting the crack, light seeping out from everywhere, a pattern of cracks appears on the skull and the tentacles of the beast fall down useless. However it is not yet done, atleast a dozen smaller versions have appeared on the wall.

Ekrath/Saiot conjusres more beams of light and begins blasting them at all the creatures.

[Deus Mortus]

The creatures quickly crumble to dust, more come until the wall is filled with 50 of the beasts, the light is starting to wear you out and you are having trouble dodging all the tentacles.

Drake prays quietly, Iames, aid me.

Iames appears. Drake. What aid do you require?

These creatures are wearing us down; there are too many of them. I humbly beg your assistance in dispatching them.

Hnh. There will be a price for you to pay, you understand this.

Iames turns away from Drake and sends a massive wave of light at the wall of creatures.

Saito has completely possesed Ekrath. He turns to Iames
Iames. It has been a while. How are you?
His body turns to pure steel and the tentacled attacks glance off.

((I'd assume so as they are both gods. Plus Saito is good friends with almost every non-evil diety))

Drake focuses on dodging the tentacles.

That's good. I cannot physicly manifest myself here so I have to possess my paladin. I lose a lot of power though, not being in my own form.

He takes his sword and parries the attacking tentacles with one hand while talking.

How unfortunate. Iames blocks and dodges the attacking tentacles.

Quite. Perhaps we should defeat this monstrous creature?

Perhaps we should wait for Deus Mortus to come online so we can know what effect our attacks are having.

((Its not like it'd even matter. The whole idea of the town is basicly godmodding. Have you ever seen a character die unless the player felt like killing their character off? However powerful this thing is, neither Ekrath nor Drake will die. Neither will be maimed within an inch of death. It's quite stupid once you think about it))

((How so? This monster will die by Drake, Ekrath, and Iames' hands. It won't kill any of them unless their player wants them to die. It's the one thing that bothers me about the town. Everything is just players godmodding.))

((But everyone accepts that it's the player's decision what happens to their character and what their character does. Godmodding, loosely defined, is when one person ignores another player's right to decide what happens to their character.))

((A nameless NPC monster isn't a character. I just think that the idea of town fights aren't very good. Because "godmodding" is illegal, some people could just never get hurt.))

((As I said before, I will godmod in these threads, you will not, you might actually die if you act like an idiot, but there will be a resurrection waiting for you at the end of the job, but it will usually mean you have atleast failed your part of the job and don't get payment plus some scoffing of the Captain, secondly for all you know I might use these monsters to further the plot and you just deciding you killed them would've ruined this. So no, you can't godmod and doing so is a quick way to get a piece of shrapnel lodged in your head, dieing and failing the mission, then getting resurrected and thrown out of the warrior's guild, I try to keep these things entertaining and if it's not something for you, then don't do them.))

The waves crush a few skulls, but the vile darkness within the tunnel quickly deteriorates Iames's influence.

The dwarf shouts at Drake, BOY USE THOSE LIGHT MACHINE'S AT THA DAMN SKULLS! The dwarf throws a small crystal orb in one of the skull's mouth's it breaks in a flash of light and the skull is no more.

Drake pulls out on of the light devices, clicks it on, and throws it at one of the skulls.

The skull dies as the ones before them did.

Iames fires another beam of light.

Drake throws another of his devices.

The beam of light fades away midair, it seems Iames power is quickly used up in this tunnel.

The second device hit and breaks another skull, but as that skull is destroyed the other skulls snap their jaws shut, closing access to the darkness, about 20 still remain.

Saito/Ekrath continues to throws bolts of light at the creatures.

Iames rushes the skulls and starts trying to crush them with a flurry of unarmed strikes.

The beams of light bounce off.

((Iames where are you striking them?))

((Iames is aiming for the foreheads))

The attacks of Iames seem to only scratch the creatures.

Saito jumps at one of the creatures and tries to plunge his sword into the skull.

Drake springs forward, thrusting with his rapier.

Iames sends waves of sonic energy at them from point blank range.

All the attacks seem to do nothing, the dwarf grabs a hammer from his belt and throws it at the teeth of one of the skulls, it seems to do nothing but edge it a little inwards, a little sliver of darkness seeps out from a tiny opening made from the blow.

Saito drops the sword and draws the Hammer of Vengeance and swings hard at the nearest creature's skull.

((God this is making me want to go watch Bleach. Hollows and such. BTW what exactly are these things?))

Iames aims a blast of light into the eye sockets of one of the skulls.

[Deus Mortus]

((Bleach is awesome though these creatures have a different origin, imagine enormous humanoid skulls and darkness behind them from which large tentacles rip forth to destroy anything in their path, also please specify where you guys are hitting these things, like I said they're pretty damn large))

The light once more dissapears midair and Iames can feel his powers weakening to the level of a mortal.

Drake aims a stab into an eye socket, trying to find a vulnerable point.

The socket is way to large for the tiny piece of metal to reach anything, the bone itself is twice as thick as the rapier is long.

Saito attempts to smash a creature's skull with the Hammer.

[Lord Iames Osari]

((Fortunately, Iames is quite powerful even as a mortal))

Iames pulls out his FN Five-seveN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_Five-seveN), and opens fire at point blank range.

[Deus Mortus]

((It's actually a rather old creature I used in an endboss fight for a UT classic mod, it's based from a rather old book filled with pictures of demons and devils I found in an antique book store, it's a real beautiful book and I still look into it when I need inspiration on things that need to be real nasty))

The attack bounces off and the dwarf looks up to Saito, Hey shiny paladin over there, would ye mind blasting one o' those light beams on that crack over there? The dwarf points at the small crack his earlier attack made on one of the skulls teeth.

Though the gun is really pretty, bullets usually don't have a real effect on creatures of that size, but with each moment passing Iames feels his energy seeping away from him.

((Count it as 1 lvl drain per round, that stays as long as you are in the tunnel))

Drake, failing to see how he can be effective against the creatures, falls back to a safe distance.

[Deus Mortus]

As drake falls back to a distance, he notices that the skulls are aligned in a pentagram, might be worth telling someone more knowledgeable about magic.

They're forming a pentagram! Drake shouts to the others, then remembers his ring of the ram (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/rings.htm#ram). He sends a 3-charge blast ot the nearest skull.

[Deus Mortus]

The blast chips out one of the skulls teeth.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames bares his teeth and sends a blast of positive energy in through the gap Drake made.

[Deus Mortus]

The skull instantly stops living, however that last strike has cost a lot of Iames and he can barely breath.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames pauses for a moment to regain his focus and his breath.

[Raistlin1040]

Saito feels his grip on the material plane slipping and he sends a bolt of light at the crack before losing possesion of Ekrath's body. Ekrath drops to the ground, drained of energy.

[Deus Mortus]

Even pausing doesn't stop the loss of energy and soon Iames drops on the ground, completely exhausted.

Lads we can't carry this on an' those creepy lurkers seem to be doing some magic, we need to finish them quick!

[Raistlin1040]

Ekrath picks himself up and throws the hammer at one of the creatures and picks up his sword, closing in for the kill

Another avatar of Iames appears, picks up the previous avatar, and teleports away.

Well, what in the hells do you suggest we do? Our weapons are useless against them, and I don't have any more of my light devices!

The hammer does nothing and Ekrath is smashed back by a tentacle before he can finish his charge.

The second avatar reappears. I could probably provide some explosives.

The dwarf starts lacing explosives from his pack and Ekrath's grenades to a large rope.

((Sorry Iames, but you are now unable to come in here, I had thought out the following sequences as a puzzle for the two plus the dwarf and I actually have a good reason why you are being shunted from the tunnel, once that reason is removed you can come again, but until then you can't))

Iames tries to figure out how the creature's magic is still working if they can no longer form a pentagram.

((Guys I'm leaving, just finishing up the bit of plot with Verdandi and then I'll go to sleep, the magic is still active, the pentagram is merely a focus that increases the power of the spell to spell^x where x is the amount of creatures in the pentagram.))

Drake watches for any attacking tentacles and defends against them if any come.

The dwarf finishes with lacing the explosives and starts swinging the rope above his head, Lads this be the plan, I need you two ta defend me from those tentacles so I can blow up some of tha teeth, then I need Ekrath to start shining in light in the gaps I make.

Drake nods, continuing to watch and defend.

The dwarf starts to swing around the rope and lets the explosive hit the teeth of the skulls, in his first strike he hits two skulls allowing Ekrath to fire light into the darkness in their maws, but the skulls instantly start attacking the dwarf and flood of tentacles shoots to old armorer.

Drake leaps in front of the dwarf and throws all his skill and expertise into defense.

[Deus Mortus]

The tentacles cut and bruise you, but you are able to fend them off to defend the dwarf.

((We wait for Ekrath now))

Ekrath shoots the rays in the holes made by the dwarf.

[Deus Mortus]

The skulls are destroyed and some of the tentacles near Drake drop down inanimate, the dwarf prepares another strike.

Drake continues to defend against the tentacles that are still attacking.

[Deus Mortus]

The dwarf strikes again and takes out the teeth of three skulls. Drake is forced on his knees from the continuing barrage of blows.

Ekrath continues to launch bolts of light at the holes.

Drake backs up, if at all possible, trying to get back to his feet.

[Deus Mortus]

The skulls are destroyed, but Drake is knocked prone and bleeding for a nasty head wound, the dwarf prepares another strike.

Drake continues defending and gets back to his feet, growing angry.

[Deus Mortus]

The tentacles continue their attack and Drake can hardly defend himself against them his vision is starting to become blurry. The dwarf strikes once more and the teeth of one skull are damaged.

Ekrath shoots another bolt at the skulls.

((Alright is this job almost over?))

Iames damn it all, I'm not trained for this kind of fight! Either hurry up and kill these things now, or give up this futile resistance and let them kill us!

With twelve left the skulls seem to win the fight and the Dwarf let's out a menacing cry and throws the rope, damaging all of them. However one of the tentacles pierces Drake's chest with it's tip, he's still alive, but only barely.

((Depends how observant you are, if you guys had focused on the teeth from the moment I hinted at it, it would've been over pretty soon as I would've allowed Iames to break them all, you haven't and this also means the dwarf has lost all of his explosives which would've been usefull from early on, read my posts carefully and this will be a breeze, if not it might take a while, but trust me when I say the reward will be well worth it.))

Ekrath runs at the skulls, tries to smash the teeth with the hammer and shoot light at the holes.

[Deus Mortus]

((The skulls teeth are already broken, so I'll just assume you only fired light beams))

The skulls are quickly done and as their bones crack and light comes shining too the wall starts to crack and fall done, revealing a giant door of a few hundred feet high and wide.

As Drake sees the light crumbling the his vision blurs and he falls unconscious.

...and slowly bleeding to death

(Ekrath performs a coup de grace and takes drakes stuff...oh wait I'm a paladin right?)

Ekrath uses lay on hands on drake.

Drake's vision clears and he gets to his feet. We should rest before continuing.

The dwarf shakes his head, Sorry lads, but these caves aren't safe, we need to press on.

Listen, if we run into anything else, I won't last a minute. I need to rest and get my strength back. do either of you have any magic you can use to make a safe area for us to rest in? Like a pocket demiplane or something?

The three are teleported to Saito's plane where three beds and a table of food and drink is waiting.

Drake goes to the table and begins to eat.

Ekrath eats a large amount of food and consumes super-human amounts of super-human strenght ale.

Drake consumes merely human portions of food and human-strength drink, then retires to a human-scale bed for a human-length period of rest. ((:smalltongue:))

Ekrath requires no rest as it is a plane that has no time! He merely closes his eyes and is instantly refreshed he looks at Drake and laughs.

He wakes up and gets out of bed. Ready.
