View Full Version : How do I get my Octopus familiar to keep from dying outside of water?

So, I am making a character based on Grappling.

Took a 1 level dip into Sorcerer for Enlarge Person, and now I get the pleasure of a Octopus familiar (+3 to grapple)!

I want to carry it around on my shoulder, partly for cuteness sake, and partly because the PCs' divine master is Socothbenoth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socothbenoth) .

So, how can I do this please? Any ideas folks? Drawing a blank here sadly.

An iridescent ioun stone should probably do the job. At least, I don't see why a DM would say no.

Spell Compendium has a spell that is basically the reverse of water breathing.

Alternatively, see if your DM will accept "air" as a valid adaptation for the Acidborn template (Dungeonscape).

Hmm...

Can Permanency be cast on the Air Breathing Spell?

Eberron stuff (mainly Magic of Eberron) has rules for magic and grafts made from bound elementals. Find or design a graft/item made from a water elemental that the DM will allow to count as the octopus being in water. I think there even was a suit of armour made from a water elemental. If you pay some extra, you can probably come up with some kind of watery outfit for your octopus.
