So everyone decided we were going to do a monster campaign next and i have no clue what to pick and so i was wondering if anyone knew of some great monsters to be. Oh yeah and i also need to break it down with ss because we are level one for some reason.

Be a Blackspawn Raider, Greenspawn Sneak, or Whitespawn Hordeling (all in the MM-IV). They're fun.

Hard to go wrong with Ghaele. 20 levels of progression, but in addiotion to the nifty Ghaele stuff you get Cleric caster levels (up to 14, anyway).

Lantern Archon can be reasoned out to an LA 0.

Awakened undead is fun, just for the roleplaying capacity to act out all those stupid halloween jokes. Your skeleton fighter walks into a bar and orders a drink and a mop.

If you're going to be a melee/rogue class....vampire.

If you're going to be a spellcaster class....lich.

Vampires are nice overall. The bonuses well outweigh the weaknesses.

Liches turn you into a spellcaster with a D12 hit die, and give you good ability bonuses as well. That and you have the opportunity to become a demilich.

It doesn't seem like it would be possible to be a lich via Savage Species breakdown, since you have to meet certain prerequisites to be one there's no way you could start at 1st level.

Ugh, Vampire? That was nominated as the worst race in existance, and for good reason.

If you wanted to be silly, Anthropomorphic Baleen Whale is always good for a laugh. Overpowered, though, especially if you added Feral and Mineral Warrior to the mix...

On an only slightly more serious note, awakened monkey is surprisingly good, especially if you're a rogue. Take the various small fighting feats (underfoot combat, confound the big folk) and keep your climb skill up... you can do some awesome stuff. RogueX/OA Ninja Spy X could lead to some serious fun.

You could use a skeleton awakened with the Awaken Undead spell as described in the Spell Compendium. Might need to do a little work in regard to getting the turn resistance to a point where you aren't an insta-kill/rebuke for everything with Turn Undead though... Fluffwise, it's hard to beat the skeleton in armor look. And, as undead go, being nice, clean bones beats being a smelly, rotting corpse.

The awakened monkey sounds like a cool idea... The awaken thing in general gives you a lot of roleplaying hooks.

Ghoul/Ghast from Libris Mortis is a pretty good one, if you don't mind dealing with a)being undead and b)the stench when (if) you get to lvl. 8. Couple of Claws and a Bite, along with some pretty nifty stat bonus' and Paralysing attack. Access to the Undead Feats (Lifesense, etc.) can make for interesting characters. Certain PrC's fit the Ghast quite well too - Kensai is the one that always springs to my mind as it allows you to focus on your natural attacks more. Also quite nice on account of being able to be something else at the same time (like a Dwarf Ghast or Catfolk Ghoul).
