Favorite Flyers(3.5)

I am in need of a low CR flying monster, it will be played against six level 3 characters as a boss fight.

I was planning to add the Monster of Legend template to the creature, because it's guarding something quite valuable but if the monster is good enough I won't bother.

Cloaked Ape in MM2, it's a medium-size CR 2 flyer. I'd advance (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/improvingMonsters.htm#advancedMonsterChallengeRati ng) it to 8 HD to make it CR 3. The update booklet (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20030718a) switches its DR to Cold Iron and makes its feats Alertness and Flyby Attack.

Monster of Legend would put it at CR 5, and since it already has DR and Fast Healing I'd make its special qualities Reflective Hide and Spell Resistance, and make its special attack Raging Blood.
