View Full Version : Barding for Vermins (Pathfinder)

Hey quick rules question. My DM is saying that vermin can't wear barding, I have no idea why he thinks this but I need to show him so evidence that they can. The vermin in question is my familiar so it is intelligent.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most vermin creatures actually don't have an armor slot. Item slots are defined by body type on this table (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items#table-magic-item-slots-for-animals). So if your GM is saying no, I'm afraid it's a no.

Closest I can see is the description of barding not saying what creatures it needs to be created for. Closet is saying that it mentions horses, but that'd doesn't fit as a restriction as it mentions flying creatures with barding.

Either way, just point him towards the Armour for Unusual Creatures Rules here (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateEquipment/armsAndArmor/armor.html), I'm pretty sure it's actually the same thing.

Quadruped/Hexapods have armour slots, most vermin would be in that body group despite not being Animal typed.

Actually, most vermin would be in the aptly-named Verminous group. Vermin being the actual Vermin creature type, not vermin like rats.

Wow, didn't see that at the bottom.... I just assumed Hexapods as it has members of the Vermin Creature Type in it.... Also, verminous has non-vermin.... which just confuse the issue further....

Huh...apparently you can make barding for giant ants, but not scorpions. Who knew?

I agree, it is rather ridiculous. Personally, I allowed one of my players to make barding for their giant scorpion, but since your GM doesn't seem to be as accommodating, there's really not much you can do, unless you're willing to give it the Extra Item Slot (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/extra-item-slot) feat.
