Monk Weapon Question PF

Ok so I was browsing the PFSRD and I came across the Emei Piercers (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/weapons/weapon-descriptions/emei-piercer)

Now they are monk weapons, they turn unarmed strikes into Piercing attacks which is cool but I had a question about their dmg.

does the 1d3 it deals replace the monk's unarmed strike damage?

I suspect you can still use the monks unarmed damage, it just gets changed to piercing damage. If you were using it with a different class you'd use their unarmed damage rating. The values listed for that weapon are the defaults for unarmed damage.

Alright I wanted to be sure because we were having an argument with a few of our table saying that he would have to use the 1d3 damage rather then his normal unarmed. Thank you.

Yeah, I can understand that line of thinking but if you reduce the unarmed damage just to do piercing damage the weapon isn't worth it. You'd just switch to a monk weapon that does piercing damage with a higher damage output.
