Skimming the druid spell list, and I notice a pattern involving a lot of their spells. They have gigantic effected areas.
Sunburst (http://paizo.com/prd/spells/sunburst.html)- 80 foot radius
Earth Quake (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/e/earthquake)- 80 foot radius
Sleet Storm (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/s/sleet-storm)- 40 foot adius
Stone Call (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/s/stone-call)- 40 foot radius
Entangle (http://paizo.com/prd/spells/entangle.html)- 40 foot radius
Even spells like Ice Storm (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/i/ice-storm)- 20 foot Radius, can be difficult to deal with in combat if you have any melee at all.

Now i know Selective Spell (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/metamagic-feats/selective-spell-metamagic) exists, but that leaves some of these spells taking up valuable 9th level slots not to mention it only works on spells with an instantaneous duration. Does anyone have any tips for using these spells in ways that won't earn me ticked off looks from across the table?

Don't fire them into areas containing other PCs?
That's the generally accepted method of avoiding friendly fire.

Filppancy aside, what exactly is the problem? You can't target enemies without hitting friendlies? Does the enemy close with you that quickly? Or is it that your allies rush into melee before you can act?
In the latter case, just ask your fellow players to either wait until you've acted so you can use these fun spells or to try to stand so that you don't have to hit them as well as the enemy when you fire into melee.

You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs comes to mind.

Selective Spell metamagic rods are not expensive. Alternatively dont bring melee people along. If you are throwing level 7/8 spells around then their sell by date has largely expired anyway...:)

Make sure your friends know to get out of the way beforehand?
