Does WOTC need to make a Transmutation Spontaneous Specialist like Dread Necro is the Necromancy Spontaneous Specialist, Beguiler is the Illusion/Enchantment Spontaneous Specialist, and Warmage the Evocation/Damaging Conjuration Specialist?

Is there a need for such a class? How would you make it?

Or would it be too powerful?

The closest I can think of is the Artificer who is a little different than what you are looking for, most of his spells as transmutation or enchantment spells. If you are unsure of what an artificer is its in the Eberron Campaign setting, but its an awesome class with the ability to make anything, and I am serious about anything

I am familiar with the artificer, my question isn't how to make such a class with existing materials, I am asking should WOTC make a future base class that is similar to dread necro, beguiler, warmage but for transmutation?

I wouldn't be suprised if they did, and I'd like to see it. It's power would of course depend on what spells WoTC decided to give it, and what it's other non-spell transmutation abilities would be. Dread Necro gets lich powers and rebuking, warmage gets some bonus damage and armor, beguiler gets sneak a'spell bonuses, but what could a transmuter get? Minor shapeshifting? Shiftable bonuses to ability scores? Powered up shapeshifting spells? All of these have been done and only replicate the spells they use anyway.

Let's look at what each class truly does: The beguiler is a magic powered skill monkey, the warmage is a magic powered archer, the dread necro seems to be a de-buffer, so a transmuter would be a buffer, obviously. Probably some sort of spell tenacity and extension, for longer lasting spell resistant buffs. WoTC would likely only grant their new polymorph subschool spells for shapeshifting, so maybe some extra abilities when using those too.

Powered up shapeshifting spells?

You mean, like Polymorph?
