It should be defaulted. Are you sure your avatar has transparacy on the file itself?

Since his background isn't showing up as transparent for me either, I'm going to go ahead and assume that the problem is with the file itself, not his browser.

(Esp. since I'm not using IE7)

INdeed, maybe have a look at the how to create an avatar thread and it should have a nice guide to transparency, I never got it personally, but they should explain it pretty clearly over there.

If you work with Sodipodi or Inkscape and export it as a PNG, it automatically has transparency. Just take a look at my avi.

It's transparent and a PNG. (mostly because I'm too lazy to open up Photoshop to convert it into a GIF)

it is a .png, but the avatar itself does not have a transparent background, it is appearing white on mine also.

Dirge, is my avatar Transparent?

Of course, now that the avatar area no longer alternates colors, transparency isn't the requirement it used to be. Just use the color hex value #F0E7D3, and it will blend in just fine.

I exported it in irfanview, ill try exporting it in sodipodi.

Edit:If i export with sodipodi, it won't let me size the image to 117x117. I nned to use irfanview to resize it.
