Hey, all - I used to do 3.5 a bunch back in the day, but I've been playing/running 4e and other games a bunch for the past 5 years or so.

I'm sitting in on a Pathfinder session tomorrow, probably a 1-shot but who knows, and I lack the resources/knowledge to quickly make a character, so I'm coming to you, hat in hand, asking for some help. Please something that's easy to manage, though - I still know 3.5 but don't know PF very well.

Here's the entirety of my instructions:

"Level 8 Pathfinder goblin with level equivalent gear/money. The team thus far is an explosion alchemist, thunder caller bard, and a natural attack ranger."

"Focus is fun and goblin craziness."

So it seems low-op and easy-going, so please no aggressively hegemonizing ursine swarms.

Please help me?

My first suggestion is to check the PFSRD, which is pretty thorough for a free resource - considerably more thorough than the 3.5 version.

It sounds like an all-Goblin group, with an Alchemist, a Bard, and a Ranger; is that right? If so, I'd strongly consider a Cavalier, charging into the fray on a Boar mount. Goblins can give their Favored Class bonus HP to their Mount, rather than themselves, making the mount particularly sturdy.

Luckily for you the entire Pathfinder Paizo Published library falls under the open game license and has multiple SRD, I prefer this link here (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/), because it also lists FAQ answers and even some forum posts from the designers. (It's all clearly marked in sidebars.)

It basically is a lot like 3.5, so character building is pretty much the same. Goblin stats are here (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/other-races/featured-races/arg-goblin) and for class (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes), pick one you like and people here can probably help you build it. For a one-shot I advise to pick something you have some 3.5 experience with so you can focus on whats new and different, rather then struggling with figuring an entire new class out.

3.5-Pathfinder Conversion guide (http://paizo.com/products/btpy89m6?Pathfinder-Roleplaying-Game-Conversion-Guide), free of charge. Should give you enough understanding of the rules changes to play a quick one-shot.

Edit: Not only Swordsaged, but Shadow Sun Ninja'd too.

What do you feel like playing? Frontliner, caster, ranged attacker, skillmonkey, controller, healer/buffer, what?

Do you know what type of character you would like to play? Melee, spellcaster, hybrid...ect.

Also do you have any kind of indication as to what kind of game it is going to be? Social, dungeon crawl, lots of traps ect.

Based on the party line up it sounds like a dedicated caster (divine or arcane) or a rogue wouldn't go amiss. A melee fighter might also be a good backup to ranger. A ranged fighter wouldn't hurt either.

A rogue or a ranged fighter may be easier builds due to goblins getting a +4 to Dex. But for a low-OP, one-shot its really about what type of character is going to be fun for you to play.

Ummm simpler the better, I'd say. I want to avoid casting spells if possible, because I don't want to look them up during play and slow things down. I'll definitely spend some time learning what any character I'm running can do on the SRD.

I liked the cavalier idea.; that was pretty badsss!

It's kind of weird coincidence, though; I have a blink-dog-riding pixie in the other game I'm in with this group.

Goblins even have their own kind of mount, the Goblin Riding Dog (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/animals/dog/goblin-dog).

If thats the route you want to go:

Suggested primary weapon - Lance (x2 damage on a charge/x3 with spirited charge.)

Feats to definitley pick up:
Mounted Combat - Can negate damage to your mount with a ride check (Also prereq for almost all good mounted feat)
Ride-By-Attack - Can attack enemies in the middle of a charge without provoking (Pre-Req for Spirited Charge and very useful against enemies with reach...and for getting out of the way of your alchemist friend :smallwink:)
Spirited Charge - Deal double damage on a charge or triple damage with a lance)

Potentially Useful Local Feats (Make sure your GM allows local feats):
Wheeling Charge - Lets you make a 90 degree turn during a charge (makes doing what you do a lot easier)
Mounted Blade - Get a 2nd attack against an adjacent enemy on a charge.

The Order of the Cockatrice (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/cavalier/orders/paizo---cavalier-orders/order-of-the-cockatrice) could work well on all counts, both in Goblin personality and general tenor of the game, while also being useful to you.

For the Teamwork Feat, you might look at Escape Route (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/escape-route-combat-teamwork) so that you and the Natural Attack Ranger both can maneuver around the battlefield more easily; be sure to talk to the DM about some of the oddities that come up when you're the only one with a Teamwork Feat, though (I'm looking at you, Swap Places).
