Epic mount

Friend wants to ride a mechanical giant flaming snake mount. Does not strictly have to be mechanical... Any ideas of how to make this a reality? Bonus points if it has a breath weapon.

She just wants the end goal to be that and will base her class around the ability to get a fire breathing giant mechanical snake. Not sure how what details you want. She can be any level, any race, with any amount of gold and any feats needed.

Half Iron Golem, Half Red Dragon, Huge Constrictor Snake? It flies, its mechanical, it breathes fire, its huge. Next question is how the character gets access to such a mount. It's type is dragon so that opens up some doors. You could probably convince a DM to let you take it with the Dragon Cohort feat.

You are going to need to minimize ECL of the dragon if you get a Dragon Cohort.

Just saying... if you want to, you know, RIDE the creature, it would have to be at least Large, which is a big, big issue...

Nah, Enlarge Person is for people, not snakes. The Halfgolem halfdragon snake is CR 10 which is just above the dragons offered at the upper limits of Dragon Cohort. Course, that's CR not ECL. Who knows what its ECL is.

Find a way to get a half dragon snake, and then make an Effigy of it. Bonus points if you template stack it through the roof in the process. For a build, there is the Effigy master PRC form Complete Arcane

The problem screams Effigy Creature (Complete Arcane, I think) to make it mechanical. Giving it a breath weapon would need to be done after the Effigy template is applied (unless you get an Ex breath weapon not based on Con, but those will be rather rare). Getting it to breathe fire... hmm. If we skip the mechanical bit, you can definitely take a giant snake, use Dominate Monster on it (or, as a Cleric with the right domain, just Command it, or take ranks in Handle Animal and get a domestic giant snake), and then apply the Metabolic Fire draconic graft (Races of the Dragon, page 129). So... Wizard, with Wyrmgrafter and a few spells (or handle animal), meets the bare minimum.

Otherwise... I don't know of a direct way to get a breath weapon on an arbitrary construct. You can probably fake it OK (automatic reset trap of a suitable spell, goes off when the snake opens it's mouth, and is mounted inside the effigy's mouth).

The Effigy template would remove the breath weapon from the half-dragon template, as the save DC is Con based, and it's Supernatural. You'd have to bend the rules to do it that way.

Well, Sandstorm has the Ashworm, which is basically a Large sand burrowing snake.

It also has the Ashworm Dragoon, a PrC based around riding your Ashworm.

Find some way to get your hands on a Half-Red Dragon Ashworm and you're set. Except on the mechanical side. That's hard to do.

For that, I would say an Effigy Half-Red Dragon Huge Constrictor Snake that has had Awaken Construct cast on it, then took levels in Dragonfire Adept. I think you can still use the breath weapon, the save DC is just a crapshoot.

It's mechanical, it's huge, it's somewhat like a snake and he can craft it himself as soon as level 6.

Why not a zhentarim skymage?

If she started off as a sorcerer she could have a pretty serious charisma and could get a really high HD mount.

Grab a half *Gold dragon half golem giant snake.


Everything she could possibly want right?


*we probably shouldn't force a red dragon to mate with something like this.
