As you arrive at the headquarters ready for your mission you are informed that Alexander will be your overseer. You can't escape the feeling that you drew the shortest straw. Your mission, as he informs you is to check a particular area of the Velvet World. He doesn't really give you all the information, but you get the idea that this is a simple track-reading mission. He doesn't really expect any confrontation, but there might be a few local shadows. Before he sends you on your way he gives you the code to the headquarters door, that can be used in case of an emergency.

Frankly, Lenora isn't sure why she was chosen for the investigation team, and not one of the other two.
But there is this nagging feeling, this suspicion, that somehow, the reason could be boiled down to "for the lulz", considering one of her teammate was that Levi guy. She's hardly spent time with him, but she knows him well enough already to already have the vague desire to defenestrate him just hearinh im speak.
And the fact this impression was doubtlessly reciprocal didn't do anything to dissipate that suspicion.
Hence, at this moment, she was mustering all her willpower to make nothing more than a wry face. No comment, no joke, no nothing. You can be better than that, Lenora. Take the higher ground.
Hiding her disdain, however, would take inner strength she still lacks.

Levi steps through the veil, vigilant and at the ready, he knew why he was selected for this detail and frankly he prefered it. Information was key to winning any battle and he was particularily good at finding it. It was a shame to see who he had to drag along: another noob, the spolied, clueless rich girl and meat for brains. At least the last one in question was experienced and would have some use, the new one who knew but Rich Girl was worrysome. She couldn't throw money at these problems to make them go away and if she got into some situation due to her big mouth Levi probably would just let her deal with it alone. Unless she of course proved to be useful but he somehow doubted that; however, he could be definitely sure to get some amusement out of the situation since he knew the type: very insecure and constantly seeking attention from a parental figure who give money but not affection. A really easy target that was somewhat similar to his own situation though he turned down the money and only sought to crush his father instead of gain approval or affection.

Dorian stood with his hand never leaving his hilt. He waited for the others to make a move, as the instructions were too vague for him to decipher what they should be doing. Not having experienced the Velvet World, he was interested in what waited beyond the veil.

He wanted the others to go first; they had experience. Some, anyway. Davis seemed decent enough, but the other two he knew little about. He was wary of the big Russian; he seemed like the kind who liked to twist words and manipulate people. It would be best to keep information out of his hands. But, perhaps that was why he had been chosen for the investigations. The girl claimed to have famous parents, but that meant very little to him. He had never felt a particular sense of entitlement, so he wasn't sure why she seemed to.

Nonetheless, they were his team, and it would be best to keep in their good graces.

His eyes cast out into the unending blackness, slowly scanning across the horizon, or at least where he assumed the horizon was. Deeming the situation safe enough for now, he looked over his shoulder to have a better look at the team. Dorian seemed like an okay guy, Levi was not only intimidating in size, but something about him seemed off, and Lenora... Davis really didn't know what to make of her.

Turning back toward the darkness, he pulled out his card and lifted it before him, allowing what little light it gave off to offer some illumination amidst the inky black. Thinking about it a little more, the briefing, if it could even be called that, they had been given, was once again extremely vague, which irritated him to no end."Well, should we get moving? Might as well start looking for clues about WHAT we're supposed to be looking for. Unless our precious Alexander wants to stop being all Scrooge McDuck about our objective so we can get this done sometime today." He then spoke, making sure his communicator was on so Alexander heard the last bit.

Levi shrugs and smiles capriciously "If you wish to wander on ahead be my guest, but I think it may be wise to have a team meeting and discuss battle formation and emergancy response before galavanting into velvet world." Cracking his neck the big Russian extends out his arm and forces the manifestation of a massive polearm. Craddling it on his shoulder he looks at the group "My suggestion with 4 people is a diamond formation;have brute up point with two midlings just behind and medic in back. So I think goon in front, myself and new guy behind and spoiled rich girl in back. Oh I hope you didn't wear your heels today, if something goes wrong you're going to be the one sprinting back to report." The Russian smirks and crosses his arms.

"Caution should always be exercised in the Velvet Room, but this area poses no immediate danger. You don't need a specific battle formation, but you should still keep your weapons close, there could be a stray shadow or two. There is a point of interest 200 meter north. As a matter of fact, Lenora is wearing heels.
She makes a mental note not to do that next time.
Which doesn't prevent her from replying coldly to the one who dared point out the obvious. "'Spoiled Rich Girl' has a name. Consider finding better, more creative nicknames for everybody. Else you're going to run out of names very fast."
The girl looks around, carefully, the few lights around turning her glasses into two big, opaque bright circles. "200m away, huh? Let's check that."

Levi smiles within his mind at 'Lenora's' reaction but keeps his smirk in place while activating his communicator"Affirmative Commander, will begin initial approach for oberservation." Releasing the button he casts a leering glance at Lenora "As for nickname, I prefer keeping it simple while staying true to original intent. Spoiled, Empty-headed Rich Girl is better I agree but if you want I can shorten it up to SERG for you if too long. I tried putting something about obvious daddy issues in there but alas years of Russian pragmatish has dispelled any shred of creativity. Alright Miles, Mr. Gray and Serg lets see what we can see."

"You were not given information for a reason, we need a fresh pair of eyes. You need to stay objective and absence of information helps."

"Understood." Davis replies a after a while in a stoic manner. He really wasn't liking this Levi-persona right now, particularly not the way he seemed to treat his teammates. "Are you done? Because I imagine if you can devote as much thought to actually doing something useful as you can to verbally lambasting the rest of us then we can maybe get this done quicker." He replied to Levi, obviously annoyed as he stepped past him. "Oh, and one more thing. You call me a goon again and I will break your nose." He then said over his shoulder, and if his tone was nanything to go by, he probably meant it as well.

There are just too many things wrong with what Levi just said to point them all out individually.
Lenora starts gesturing a bit, angry even before she's processed half his words, but she gives up her attempts at non-verbal communication halfway through.
"... yeaaah... yeah. Forget it. Miles", she says, already mixing up names and nicknames, "I'm not going to say I agree with Levi here, but he's got a point in that this task may take time. We can't hurry and take the risk of half-assing our first mission."

Dorian had already gone a bit farther in. If the others were going to stand around in the opening for a while, he might as well check out the later path. There were enough eyes looking in the same place. As for the rest, their inability to work with each other did nothing but buy his silence. It was best to keep conversation work-related.

"Children, behave. You are on a mission, not a school trip. I would advise you not to panic and stay calm."

As you move away from the Velvet Door and it becomes just a blur in the distance you have a strange feeling that something is happening. You are not sure if it's just your imagination, but you think that for a second there was a strange glow, as if the door was activated. Before you have the time to think about it you notice some twinkling in the distance, and you assume it is your target.

The big Russian struts along, a bounce in his step and a melody in his heart, enjoying his encounters so far with his new team. Sure the new guy was being a bore but as Mick Jagger said 'Timmmmmme is on my sidddde! Yesss it issss!' He would only have to be patient to find his new puppets strings and then he would make him dance, oh yes he would rival the Russian Ballet! As they approached the twinkle he began to whistle some Wagner, feeling that something as tense and epic as that composer's works would be fitting for the situation.

Philemonite

The twinkling intensifies, and as you get closer you realize, at least partially, what it is. A small group of butterflies, only four as you can see, seams to be responsible. Closer inspection reveals that they aren't actually butterflies, but rather fairy like creatures with big shining butterfly wings.

Mesmerized by this sight, you fail to notice that you have company, until an unfamiliar voice snaps you out of your fascination.

"Beautiful, aren't they? A perfect trap for those who are unprepared. But don't be fooled by the sparkle, this is a vicious monster. I hope you are ready to deal with it."

Mono Vertigo

Such pretty things! Fairies with large wings, sparkling like jewels.
Lenora knows that one shouldn't trust pretty things. In theory. In practice, it's hard not to admire the unexpected show.
She welcomes the fact the unknown voice snaps her out of it before anything bad happens. In an instant, she becomes suspicious and careful again. Perhaps too late. Survival instincts that years of a spoiled lifestyle should have destroyed come back, incarnated by her Persona tugging in her mind.
"Who talked?", she asks, immediately adding, not to the stranger, but to herself and the rest of the group: "We're going to have to beat up something." It wasn't a threat, only a cold conclusion.

"So, he's trying to chase his fear away with a boast? Don't you agree Benjamin?"

"You should really leave the psychological stuff to the professionals. Or read a profile, I'm sure you have the clearance. Besides, you couldn't be more wrong.
I believe you guys noticed those two big butterflies that are emerging from the darkness. That's the main body, Jarod and I will deal with it. You guys take care of the distraction. I am sure Alexander can provide you with some with some basic information about this creatures."

Before Benjamin finishes two big butterflies emerge from the darkness, and the smaller butterflies start to morph. Their faces become angry, as they focus on the team. It is time to strike back.

I will recalculate the stats and roll the initiative so that we can start the battle as soon as I can. I'm getting tingly.:smalltongue:

The brown sprite manages not only to hit Levi, but it also deals extra damage with a well placed Tera. Fortunately, Levi manages to shrug off brunt of the attack, taking only minimal damage.

Melusine, a water spirit more snake than woman, appears protectively around her summoner. Her face is entirely enclosed within a silver mask, with only two slits for the glow of her red eyes. She points her serpentine tail towards Levi, who glows briefly.
"And don't you get killed before I can heal you", she grumbles, aware the rest of the team, even Levi, are the only ones standing between her and an early end.

Sam wasn’t quite sure what he was supposed to be doing here.

Hell, he wasn’t even quite sure where “here” was. This place was definitely a lot larger than the building he had entered to get here.

He had been thrown into the situation rather quickly, and was still trying to grasp some of the basic concepts that he had been briefed on. Something about “summoning his inner power”, and “a world filled with shadows”. Not much to go off of there.

He was thrown in headfirst, instructed only to follow the others in his group. Simply handed a blue card and some type of communicator. Uninformed. Clueless. Powerless…

That really got on his nerves. So, at first, he had stayed in the back, and kept quiet. The others didn’t seem to have much of an idea about what this “mission” was supposed to be, but most of them seemed to have at least some clue about their overall reason for being here. Might as well leave it to those more well equipped, he figured.

Then, they had come across the strange flying creatures. Sam was at a complete loss for words. "What in the name of all that is holy are these?", he muttered under his breath.

He stared, enraptured, at the creatures for a good long while. Not even the arrival of the two newcomers was able to snap him out of his trance.

Then, the creatures began attacking. Jumping back, Sam was suddenly afraid for his life. He watched as the creatures swarmed his new allies, and was about to shout for everyone to get down when-

"Whoa."...

Sam watched as even more creatures seemed to appear out of thin air, standing ready behind his newfound allies. They were obviously friendly, and more than willing to lend a hand.

Sam slowly looked over each of them. The giant Russian man, accompanied by a woman whose mere presence sent chills down Sam's spine. The girl in heels, flanked by a giant serpent-like creature. And the other boy in the front, who seemed to be having a wound tended to by... a medieval knight?

"Oh. So that's what this is all about, huh? Good to know." says Sam with a smirk. "I had honestly started to think I'd dreamt him up." Then, he turns to face the sprites.

"If you guys can control it, then I don't see why I shouldn't be able to."

Acting on instinct, Sam reaches into his pocket, and draws his card. He's far from sure what he's doing, but you'd never be able to tell that from the calm, yet determined look on his face.

Sam internally wonders just how exactly he's supposed to proceed. But his body seems to already understand the process, even if his mind is not yet up to speed. He grips the card tightly in his hand, using enough force to crush a normal playing card into scrap. And then, he says a word that he's only heard before in passing since he'd arrived. A word that, until this very moment, held no meaning to him at all. But right now? It was the most beautiful word in the universe.

"Persona."

And with that, his entire world changed.

Sam tightly gripped the longsword that had appeared in his hand. It was simple, obviously made from strong materials, but far from flashy or expensive ones. It would work nicely in a pinch. However, Sam didn't expect his sword to be doing much of the work.

Next to him materialized a sword that seemed quite similar to the one Sam now held in his hands. Although, it was much larger, and seemed to have some sort of otherworldly glow surrounding it. It was also buried feet deep into a solid stone.

Suddenly, a large hand materialized from the glow, grasping the hilt of the sword. As the blade slowly began to rise, the glow slowly solidified into the shape of a large man, dressed from head to toe in magnificent armor.

The man stepped forward, and swung his blade at the nearest sprite.

Summon Arthur in Take-Mikazuchi Aspect, then use Cleave on Green.

9 To hit, and rolled a 4 on the d6 for damage.

If I understand correctly, if it hits, I would only deal one point of damage. I may be doing the math wrong though.

Levi grins darkly as the flames surround but don't burn him So the little princess has a use... excellent. It would seem it is high time to begin pulling the strings I attached.

"MORANA, AGAIN! Finish that annoyance off with another garu!"

The now white bride shimmers summoning a blast of wind towards the brown pixie, an evil laugh could be heard on the wind as it struck.

I rolled a long time ago in the dice thread, 14 to hit and 6 on the 1d6, minor actions: Recharge MP and intercept attack for Lenora if she gets targeted

Dorian saw the red pixie taking the water attack, and decided to follow it with his own.

"This things aren't gonna give up, are they?"
Distracted by your own battle, you didn't even notice that there are a lot more of those creatures attacking Benjamin and Jarod. Before you have a chance to ask where did they come from one of the creatures engaging Jarod splits into two.
"Sure they are, you just have to know how to ask them."
"And you know just how to do it?"
"No, but I know someone who does. We just need to motivate him enough so that he can actually do something instead of making us do all his dirty work."
Suddenly, a swarm of butterflies approaches the team. You notice that they emit the same faint glow as the velvet door. They fly around the team for a few moments, and you find it strangely soothing. A few of the butterflies, one for every team member, separates from the group. As they touch the velvet cards, they turn into energy, powering them up.
"Thank you." Benjamin responds to the unseen force behind this new power. He pulls out his second card and gently throws it in the air.
"Leto, come to me one last time!"
Suddenly, two faint forms appear from this card.
First is a dark-haired woman dressed in wavy black clothing, almost invisible in the darkness of the velvet world. The other one is a man hanging upside-down, with one of his legs latched onto an barely visible pillar of a sort. The woman's dark cloak starts to spread, and soon it covers all the fairy creatures. In one swift motion the cloak dissipates, along with the two figures.
"That one won't bother us for a while. That should give us enough time to prepare. I believe we are done here, unless you want to stay and see the sights."

The hanging man's shape is reflected thrice; thrice in the reflections in Lenora's glasses, and a third time in her card, spinning after being empowered by a butterfly.
Melusine, of the Hanging Man Arcana. Melusine, hanging upside down, by her tail, from a tower. Melusine, whose tail metaphorically grabbed Lenora's feet in a fall. Unable to climb back up, but stuck away from the ground, between two places.
(The dark woman must also be significant, but Lenora has the unnerving habit of making everything about herself. Leto? Gonna Google that later if I'm not distracted by something else first hmm hm.)
A Hanging Man is a very interesting sight in her case. It enlightens her about her own Arcana, perhaps because it appeared right after the intense experience of a battle. Previously, it was just an unfortunate symbol, not even exciting enough to be used in Hollywood tarot. What just happened, though, is still a mystery. She'd like to solve that one, and several others. Like... what can she learn about the others from their Arcana and Persona? Are the others analyzing her like that?
Maybe her body language betrays the fact she's thrown a mental switch, and that her gears are zealously turning.
Dispelling any such impression, the girl smiles very smugly. "We did well. I could certainly keep doing this. Not bad, huh? What should we put in our report?"

Levi rolls his eyes Typical America, comes into a fight way past due only to take the credit for the victory, well at least I got to witness a fusion spell... With a wave he forces his spirit weapon to dissipate and looks at Lenora while shaking his head and chuckling "Ah to be an ignorant greenhorn again. Already trying to pawn off report writing on other people, such poor work ethic but I suppose you wouldn't want to break a nail."

"Seriously? I was just getting started! I had all these cool one-liners thought up for this, and I didn't even get in a hit?!" Sam said, with a bit of humor in his voice, but still obviously disappointed. "Oh well. I'm guessing there's going to be plenty of opportunities to show what I'm made of."

He lowered his arm, and watched as his sword slowly faded from existence. He then watched as his persona took a single step back, and faded in the same manner. "Don't think I'm done with you yet, Mr. Knight-in-Shining-Armor." he thought to himself. You still got a lot of questions to answer about whatever the hell you are.

The voice of the large Russian man snapped him out of his inner monologue. "Oh, yes. Because she's obviously the most inexperienced one here." he said to Levi, his voice dripping with sarcasm. He then looked towards Benjamin. "I'm ready to go whenever everyone else is. Lead the way, and I'll follow."

Levi turns, his back facing the newcomer grins as he addresses everyone else "Hmmm, how odd I could have just sworn that I felt a puff of hot air come from behind me. Odd that nothing is there though, must be velvet world getting to me, hearing voices of nonexistent beings trying to sound important. Maybe a lost soul of some recently departed fool who tried to play a hero?"

"Who knows? Maybe I am just some hot air. But that doesn't mean I can't dish out some third degree burns." said Sam with a smile. If Levi wanted to work him up, it would take a lot more than that. He turned away from Levi, making a good show of ignoring the man in exactly the same manner. Turning to the rest of the group, he said "Oh, it just occurred to me that I haven't actually introduced myself yet. I'm Sam. Nice to meet... most of you."

"Mission leader is the only one that needs to file a report, and that is only necessary if an instructor is not present. Still, your impressions can be a valuable source of information, if you want to write the down."

"When you're in the hero business long enough you learn that there will always be another opportunity for an unused one-liner. And a victory pose, you can't forget that."

"Children, behave. There is time and place for that kind of behavior, and this is not it."
There is something strange in Benjamin's voice, but you are not sure what. Whatever it is he is not in a very good mood.

Levi feigns ignorance "Why commander, I have no idea what you're talking about? I was merely commenting on eerie environment of Velvet World, I am not playing with anyone but for some reason I am getting odour of cheese. There must be some rather tragic spirits trapped here, I can not think of a worse fate then to suffer having to spew horribly lame one liners for eternity."

She nods to Benjamin and Jarod. "If we're in a hurry, then... what are we supposed to do now?"

"We are done, for now. That thing will return, but we will be ready next time. You will be ready. Make your way to the door. Once we are on the other side you are free to do whatever you want, but we need you back at headquarters tonight. Mission briefing starts at 8."
