Is there an elf or something with the subtype (or whatever) to get any bonus feat?
I want to get Collegiate Wizard and Aerenal Arcanist at level 1, and I don't want to shuffle.

Are flaws not permitted?

Yeah, flaws are probably your only option, if the DCFS is off the table.

I forget what Aerenal Arcanist does . . . is it 1st level only, or do you just want it ASAP?

You get an extra spell to add to your spellbook every time you gain a wizard level, but only -after- you've taken the feat. So you'd want it ASAP.

I can say with certainty that there's no such flavor of elf because CharOp boards would've jumped on it. :smallamused:

I could see where that extra spell in the book for free would be NICE, but not necessarily enough to burn a feat slot or flaw on, except in certain circumstances. The cost to copy a spell from another wizard's spellbook isn't THAT high and a well optimized wizard should be able to take a 1 on the spellcraft check to get it.

Unless I'm missing something.

You could make a Faustian pact.

It's not a feat, but the Elf racial substitution level for Wizards has a similar effect to Aerenal Arcanist, in that it allows you to scribe an extra spell of every spell level you can cast when you gain a level, and it gives you a floating spell slot of your highest level, but you trade away your ability to specialize.

Elven Generalist, yep.

In other words, it gives additional abilities to Elven non-specialist Wizard for free.

yup, my DM wouldn't let me take it, because he said that it was apparently too good for this reason.

I just relooked at elven generalist. So at level 3 wizard, I can get one extra level 1 spell AND one extra level 2 spell? Level 5, 1 1, 1 2, 1 3? Etc.?

yup, my DM wouldn't let me take it, because he said that it was apparently too good for this reason.Writing spells in your spellbook just costs time and money. If you lack the money, just buy ladders, break them and sell them as 10 ft poles (or use some other money generating scheme) and take the time to scribe the spells you want. Besides saving money the Elven Generalist ACF only gives the character one extra spell slot (of the highest level he can cast). A specialist gets gets one extra slot for each level he can cast, but that must be a spell of the chosen school.
Elven Generalist is better than a Specialist but a) both are Tier 1 so the difference is largely academic b) the character has to have stupid ears.

Level 1; one 1st level slot
Level 3: one 2nd level slot
Level 5: one 3rd level slot
and so on

I meant for scribing. Not one extra spell slot.

I meant for scribing. Not one extra spell slot. No, that is one extra spell per level. A wizard (specialized or general) learns 2 new spells each level, an Elven generalist learns 3 new spells each level. It is irrelevant what level those spells are, as long as they can be cast by the character (e.g. a 3rd level wizard could not learn a 3rd level spell but is free to choose from 1st and 2nd level). So mostly they will be of the highest level.

Andezzar's right: The text from the book says "At each new wizard level, she gains one extra spell of any spell level that she can cast," which is the same wording used when you gain a normal wizard level ('...two new spells of any spell level or levels that she can cast...').
So I was wrong about a new spell for every spell level you know, it always pays to actually read one's class features, I suppose .

It's still an extra spell for every level-up (same as the feat). Still nice.

Then of course you would want to get sanctum spell ASAP for a 9th level spell slot. Without flaws, doable at third.

Honestly I don't see a problem with this because generalists are usually weaker. To me it's a bit fitting of Elven wizardry that they would not want to ban schools, and found a way to be better at that.

Yeah, Elf Generalist gives you most of the benefit of specialization, without any drawback. There's no reason not to take it if it's allowed.
