Happy St. Patrick's Day fellow playgrounders!

Sadly, I'm stuck at work today and will miss the NYC parade. What sorts of things are the rest of y'all getting up to?

quoted form the Radom Banter thread:

HAPPY ST. PATS EVERYONE!

So, last night bit of a party, lots of Kilkenny, couple of games of cards, shepherd's pie and the Boondock Saints. (Last night because a couple of friends came over).

Also, best thing: no hangover or sluggish feeling at all. I feel great even.

IIRC, it's not a real St. Patrick Day celebration if you can remember it afterwards.

Nonsense, you are allowed to remember it. Typically, you are supposed to regret those parts you do remember...

Well...since I have to work and have three kids, there will be no St Patty's Partying. I will, however, probably have a Guinness or two and watch whatever's on TV. Doubtful there will be stronger spirits this evening...

Wait, what's "lots of Kilkenny"? Kilkenny is a county/town...

Look up photos of the Dublin St Patrick's Day parade, it's really good!

Kilkenny (Beer) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilkenny_%28beer%29)

Even I know that and I don't drink.

very funny, that is unless this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilkenny_(beer)) is actually not sold in Ireland. That would make for a wonderful joke

It's 4 PM and I have another 8 or so hours of work to do ahead of me. Guess I'll be working drunk, as any good Irishman Russian wont to do.

Not much going on for me. My was a big fan St Patrick's day, and this our first one without her. All these 'firsts' without her are tough. Just had my 45 birthday, first one without her. My buddy gave me a copy of the Star Blazers live action movie, so I'm gonna watch that. That'll put a smile on my face. Me and him used to race home from school to watch the animated series when we were kids.

Ah, Paddy's day. Where Americans go bananas and Irish just feel rather baffled at the excessiveness.

St. Paddy’s day, the day everyone turns Irish for 24 hours.

My mom’s family is Irish, my dad’s is Scottish. We had corned beef (not the canned crap), roasted asparagus and mashed potatoes. Sort of an American/Irish mix it was delicious. Unfortunately we had no whiskey to go with it.

Does it still count if I'm making a corned beef tonight? If it thaws..otherwise tomorrow...Same week anyway... :smallwink:

St. Patrick's Day was great because I had a day off when I was in Ireland. I don't have that luxury any more, but luckily I have other paid vacations that the Irish didn't have, so it evens out.

Here are some random pictures I took when I lived there:

Before you say St. Patrick was an English, remember that England was still a Celtic culture during his time. No, I didn't celebrate St Patrick Days this year (I forgot).
Edit: Corned Beef and Cabbage was Americanized and the real Irish had Bacon (Ham version or crispy version) and Cabbage. Then again, they might ate a canned version since it was considered as cheap meat.
