Is there anyway to gain a familiar(and improved familiars and such from feats) as a divine based caster other than being an adept?

If that was taken would your divine casting level be able to be used for prerequisites in meeting arcane casting levels required for the various feats that improve your familiar? Such as planar familiar or improved familiar?

Uh... depends on how you interpret this line:

This is identical to the sorcerer's ability to summon a familiar (PH 52), including all benefits granted and gained by the familiar, except as noted below. Her functional level for determining the abilities of the companion is equal to her druid level or one-half her ranger level.
You *could* try and argue that includes counting substituting Druid level for Arcane Caster Level, for the purposes of qualifying for Improved Familiar. But its the GM's call ultimately.

There's Mystic Wanderer prc from Magic of Faerun that gets you a familiar at 2nd level.

Arachne (F&P) - Hairy Spider
Dancer of Sharess (Dr #290) - Cat
Diabolist (BoVD) - Imp
Vermin Lord (BoVD) - Vermin Servant: 1 HD vermin (treated as a familiar, but can be taken in addition to any other familiar). At 5th level VS become 4 HD, and at 9th - 16 HD

Feats: Shadow Familiar (ToM) - Shadow familiar
Obtain Familiar (http://dndtools.eu/feats/complete-arcane--55/obtain-familiar--2078/) (qualify via Magical Training (http://dndtools.eu/feats/players-guide-to-faerun--22/magical-training--1834/)+Practiced Spellcaster (http://dndtools.eu/feats/complete-arcane--55/practiced-spellcaster--2231/)) Further progressing via Alienist (http://dndtools.eu/classes/alienist/), Fleshwarper (http://dndtools.eu/classes/fleshwarper/) or Theurgic Bond (http://realmshelps.net/cgi-bin/featbox.pl?feat=Theurgic_Bond).

Yeah, don't think any of those ways will work really wanted a fiendish and/or anarchic worg for my goblin cleric/ur-priest.

For whats it's worth, Adepts (yes, the NPC class) are divine casters and get a familiar at level 2.

Particularly good for Rangers when combined with the Improved Familiar Feat, because familiar's share your BAB and the urban variant has 3/4 your hit points. Add it to the Wildshape Ranger variant, and you've got a solid Tier 3 class.

Not exactly a familiar, but the Knight of the Raven gets a raven harrier, that serves some of the same functions as a familiar, and progresses divine casting 9/10.

Mystic wanderer (MoF) will get you a familiar as a divine caster (in addition to other goodies), but you'll need something like Southern Magician to get Improved Familiar.

Yeah, don't think any of those ways will work really wanted a fiendish and/or anarchic worg for my goblin cleric/ur-priest. Are you just planning it, or PC already in game?
Because cleric/ur-priest can be not a best choice. (Unless it's for roleplay reason. And even then - former patron must be angry...)
Don't forget: "The character must have no ability to cast divine spells. If such spellcasting ability was previously possessed (as with an ex-cleric), that ability is forever forsaken." Thus cleric chassis for ur-priest is just barely better then aristocrat.
I suggest you to take some arcane class with BAB at least 3/4 and load of skillpoints, such as bard, factotum or spellthief. (By the way, what's the starting stats?) Get a worg via Improved Familiar. Take one level of ur-priest, then go alienist. It will progress your ur-priest casting and your familiar. When you get a 3rd level spells, cast Planar Familiar (https://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/sb/sb20011020a). Also, alienist will eventually slap pseudonatural template on your familiar...

Im still a level 1 barbarian atm, but my Int is 6 and cha is only 7 and the only way I can see making the skill requirements for ur-priest is to take at least 2 levels of cloistered cleric.

Was going to say roleplay it as getting 1 or 2 levels of cleric, then getting pissed off about having to worship a god and it getting all the credit for doing the spells and stuff, then become a Ur-Priest and say ha now power comes from me!

Actually have another thread about it somewhere.

Well, for paladins or rangers...
Sword of the Arcane Order feat
Obtain Familiar feat
Now your paladin or ranger level - 4 = wizard caster level

Urpriest
2014-03-18, 08:39 PM
At high enough levels you can just grab a Worg with leadership, if that's allowed in your campaign. Or hey, Planar Ally if you figure out how it works with an Urpriest. But yeah, otherwise this list of options is pretty complete.

All Obtain Familiar requires is an arcane caster level of 3. This could technically be met with SLAs, since they are arcane, and have a caster level associated with them.
