I'm thinking about incorporating Mechas into a game I might be running soon. Can anyone give me a good example of how they work? I'm particularly confused about repairing them.

If you are talking about pilotable constructs then "repair blank damage" would do the trick. If you could give them fast healing (must work on objects / constructs) then its a self repair feature.

Instead of trying to port in mecha I suggest using constructs or effigies.

Variations on an Apparatus of the Crab (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#apparatusoftheCrab) would probably be your best bet if you're going to start from scratch. I also remember seeing a roomate's book with some kind of generic Transformers for D20 system that you could look for.

on a sidenote magitech mecha sound kind of fun, is that a thing.. and if it isnt, i feel we should make it a thing, and then throw it into spelljammer, and then have the space faring dnd equivalent of a warmachine roleplaying game.... holy **** i really want to play that now O.o

d20 Mecha (http://www.together.net/~tjoneslo/MechaD20%20SRD.pdf) is free and might be what you want.

There are plenty of (different) sources for incorporating mecha into D&D.

Besides d20 Mecha and Mechamorphosis (the generic Transformers d20 system) which were already mentioned, another source is Dragonmech by Sword & Sorcery.

It was a campaign setting with plenty of fantasy style mechs. I've been itching to use that in one of my campaigns too.

Try Grammarie, as seen on these forums. There are pretty simple rules for turning a chassis into a pilotable mech.

I also like the Blood and Circuits book. Very good systems for invention in that one.

Thanks all to the wonderful ideas. I haven't looked at effigies yet, and I understand the basics on constructs. I will definitely be looking at all of stuff you mentioned.

There are rules for Mecha in d20 modern, which is a tweaked 3e.

D20 Future has them in the SRD (http://www.d20resources.com/future.d20.srd/). They seem mainly to be a mix of armour, hit point soak and strength enhancement.
I've always wanted to try doing a campaign based on the basic premise of Orguss 02 OVA, relatively primitive warring societies, somewhere around World War 1 and 2, though not as mechanized, uncovering and restoring mechs found buried.

There was a web enhancement style page on the wizards site (can't find it now) that gave rules for converting the d20 modern/future mechs into D&D. Even rules for ECL/CR and everything.

There's also BESM d20, but it's been out of print for years and I don't know how balanced it was.

The BESM mecha can get unbalanced and over powered very quickly. The only thing keeping it even remotely close to balanced is that its too expensive (for points AND money values to buy it) to add any sort of enchantments and since there's no way by RAW to make it "masterwork" using BESM rules you can't enchant it through traditional means. BESM mecha run partially on DM fiat and guidance as well ensuring some degree of watch dog presence. Like most things in d20/D&D though it can be very over powered very quickly.

For my game, I use PF construct armor. I also homebrewed a feat, Construct Armor Pilot, that allows you to use the golem's natural armor bonus, Str score, DR, magic immunity and special attacks. It got me what I wanted and worked really fast.

Before that I was going to use d20 Future rule. There is even an article about magiteching it up. (https://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20061020a) However, that takes a lot of effort and the end result is pretty much the same.

If you end up doing it with the d20 Future rules, link me to your mechas, though.

I'm working on this for 3.P but making it a class.

One of my side projects is a d20 based game that has three classes.

Pilot: Medium BAB, 6 skill points, May use all Meks (World slang for mechs). Ex encounter abilities.

Adventurer: High BAB, 8 skill points, May use minor Meks and minor spellz (depending on choice), has additional skill options that others don't.

Caster: Low BAB, 4 skill points, May use Spellz.

I'm glad I ran across this thread it helped me want to do my idea again haha.

I've used both the d20 Mecha (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/370/d20-Mecha?it=1) and the Mecha Compendium (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/1106/d20-Mecha-Compendium-Deluxe-Edition?it=1) to make my own mecha for my D&D (converting to PF) game. So far they have worked out.

The two books are mostly the same system, but they do have a few rules differences and very different examples.

That's the page I was talking about earlier about d20 Future mechs in D&D. I like the article. I do like your feat idea too for the Pathfinder construct armor.
