I vaguely remember my DM telling me there was a masterwork material that would turn my weapon (which was an axe) heavier, making it deal more damage but also only usable in two hands. I barely remember this, so I'm not sure if its all true. Is there any material that is similar to that?

I can't recall a material like that. Could be something he homebrewed in order to add some flavor to his game.

I wanna say it was gold or something along those lines.. And I'm sure he talked about how it was in a book.

Gold or Platinum count as Heavy Weapons, which can indeed turn a 1h weapon into a 2h weapon. OR (not and) you can take Exotic Weapon Proficiency with them to increase the damage die by 1 step.
