Monster Movies

[Chainsaw Hobbit]

What are some good, underrated monster movies? I'm not looking for softcore porn or slasher movies, but rather well-written atmospheric monster movies in the tradition of the better efforts of hammer films.

What's most important to me is the portrayal of the monster. I'm willing to put up with some less-than-fantastic acting or dialogue, so long as the antagonist is frightening and original.

I always liked the Korean film 'The Host'

and if you like Werewolf movies there's 'Dog Soldiers'

I rather liked the recent I, Frankenstein movie. I felt it was mainly due to being quite a silly concept, which the movie played straight enough to make the absurdity fun to watch. Also, nice action and imagery.
