So vampires get access to things, some of them utterly suck, others kinda fly through the power level scale. I was wondering, what forum users think, of using the savage progression version of vampire, to dip around and optimize a build using the various resources vampires have been thrown.

Take one level of the savage progression to qualify for Vampire Lord?

Something tells me you don't. While it says if you have 10 character levels the person can take it. It gives no level adjustment, or class. Meaning it is incomplete, therefore not RAW?

Legacy Champion or Uncanny Trickster to advance the Savage Progression while still gaining BAB/HD, etc.

add the Savage Vampire Template from Libris Mortus for +10 Str and 2 claw attacks that energy drain

Take the first level in it at 4 then buy it off. Repeat with each following level until you have the full template bought off at level 3. I don't know if this actually works by RAW or not...

That is a bummer, the template falls flat. That sucks :(

As a template the RAW is that anything not mentioned is unchanged, thus if you have 10 character levels you can take it for 0 LA. It doesn't have to be complete.

CHECKLIST TIME!

This is assume, lord vampire stacks, instead of outright granting you abilties. Meaning, if you leave the savage progression template early, then you miss out on parts that Lord vampire gives you.

Lord Vampire grants you no matter what

natural armor bonus improves by +6.

fly with speed 50 ft. and perfect maneuverability.

+1 hp per HD

Blood Drain (Su): As base vampire, but a vampire lord's blood drain inflicts 1d4+2 points of Constitution drain each round the pin is maintained.

Control Weather (Sp): A vampire lord can cast either control weather or fog cloud as a 12th-level sorcerer at will.

Telekinesis (Su): A vampire lord can use telekinesis (caster level 12th) at will.

Telepathy (Su): A vampire lord can communicate telepathically with any living creature within 100 feet that has a language, and with any vampire under its direct control to a range of 1 mile.

Saves: Same as the base vampire, plus the vampire lord applies its Charisma modifier to all saving throws in addition to its other ability modifiers (as a paladin does).

You are not Undead, so not turn resistance

Abilities: Increase from the base vampire as follows: Str +6, Dex +4, Int +2, Wis +2, Cha +4

Skills: A vampire lord receives an additional +4 racial bonus to Sense Motive checks, and a +8 racial bonus to Diplomacy and Intimidate checks.

Feats: Vampire lords gain Iron Will and Leadership as bonus feats, assuming the base vampire does not already have these feats.

LA 1 Dip grants you!!!!!

Con -2, blood drain 1 con damage, resistances 5 cold, 5 electricity , spawn slavery(if not created by magical ritual or something), spider climb - At Will, vampire bonus feats (Alertness, Dodge)

LA 2 DIP GRANTS YOU!!!!

Str +2, blood drain (1 con drain ), fortification (light), vampire bonus feats (Improved Initiative, Lightning Reflexes), +2 Bluff, Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Search, Sense Motive, and Spot checks

3 LA DIP GRANTS YOU!!!

Cha +2, Dex +2, coffin sanctuary (lesser), dominate once per day, gaseous form 10 mins once per day, resistances (10), slam

Energy Drain (Su): As base vampire, but a living creature hit by a vampire lord's slam attack takes 3 negative levels.

Domination (Su): As base vampire, except that a vampire lord can do this either by gaze or voice. It does not require line of sight to the target, but the target must be able to hear the vampire lord's voice when it speaks at a normal volume level.

The Nope you don't get list

Alternate Form (Su): A vampire lord can assume the form of any animal, as the druid ability wild shape used by a 12th-level druid. The vampire lord can use this power at will as a move-equivalent action. The vampire lord can change from one animal shape to another without having to revert to its humanoid form.

Children of the Night (Su): As base vampire, but the creatures summoned forth serve the vampire lord until released. Further, the vampire lord can sense through the senses of any such commanded creatures, and communicate empathically with them, to a range of 10 miles.

how do you think it fairs, against other heavyweights like half-fey and necropolitan?
