Hair Drawing Advice

Right now I'm using Macromedia Flash to draw my various stick avatars/pictures. I'm just starting out, but I'm getting pretty good at it. However, I'm having a truckload of difficulty getting the hair looking right. Does anyone have any advice?

Personally, what I do is open up one or two layers, one above and one below my 'head' layer. Then I draw zigzag lines with the line tool, then curve them with the arrow tool.

So I should always make sure that some of the hair is outside the head circle?

Also, how do you do the spiky anime-style hair?

Okay, so the face looks weird, but this is a hair tutorial. And I did it in like 5 minutes.

As the above show, it's important to extend hair past the headline. Most important is keeping the ends spiky looking and to keep detail lines within the drawing.

Aside from that, when doing the anime-style hair, don't worry too much about proportion. Start with the hair, and work from there.
