This post isn't meant to be a political debate, but rather to see if trends in class/race/alignment exist within each political party. For example, perhaps more conservative minded people favor lawful alignments and the cleric/paladin classes, while the more liberally minded favor chaotic alignments and druid/ranger classes.

Like I said, I'm not trying to stir anything up here. I just thought it would be interesting for everyone to post their political affiliation, and class/race/alignment preference and see if any pattern emerges. I'll go first as an example.

Political: Strong economic and social conservative. Registered republican, but more conservative than the party.
Favored Race: Dwarf
Favored Class: Cleric
Favored Alignment: Lawful Good

That's all! Thanks for participating.

P.S. If you fall into a lesser known political group, feel free to give a brief description. E.g. Socially liberal and economic conservative.

P.P.S. This might hit a snag given the fact that I have NEVER met another conservative DND player.

I don't consider modern Democrats to be "liberal" in the classical sense of the word. Nor do I consider modern Republicans "conservative".

I'm basically a capitalist with libertarian leanings, which makes me something of a classical liberal, though I'm registered as a Republican (and I'll vote for them if/when they start caring about small government again.) I believe in small government that provides basic infrastructure and protection and a common legal framework such that everyone can live their lives as they desire. I don't believe the government should be involved in welfare or marriage or most other social issues, and should only gather enough taxes to provide military, police, a judiciary, and roads/utilities.

I tend to play "good" characters, with only slight lawful or chaotic tendencies. My lawful-ish characters will be more likely to do things the legal way, while my chaotic characters will cut corners, but none of my characters will sacrifice good for the sake of rules. Few of my characters are anti-government, but all of them are quite willing to ignore the government and just do what they personally think is right. Some will just do it more often or more blatantly than others.

EDITED to add:

political: capitalist/libertarian
favored alignment: neutral good, usually with slight chaotic leanings
favored race: Usually dwarf, human, or halfling, selected based on class and role-playing ideas.
favored class: ranger (don't laugh, I'm serious) or fighter.

Political: Semi-Socialist, Semi-Capitalist, Highly Apathetic, Liberal-Leaning Centrist.

Favoured Race: ...I guess anything that doesn't have an LA? I like all the races for different reasons.

Favoured Class: Generally anything but 75% of the material from non-core sourcebooks.

Favoured Alignment: Neutral, but I'll play anything. It really depends on the character for me.

Politically: Socially conservative, economically moderate/slightly liberal.

Favorite race: I've always loved elves ... if they're done well. Not too many subraces, please. WarCraft II had cool elves. (More recent Warcraft games have ruined them.)

Favorite class: I'm a big fan of Rangers (but I dislike Druids, always have). Swashbucklers and Truenamers and Rogues are good too.

Favorite alignment: In fantasy, Neutral Good usually produces my most respected characters. In RL, I try to be Lawful Good. When I'm playing D&D, I think my favorite alignments to play are probably CG and LE (opposite ends of the spectrum, hmmm).

Interesting idea, I'm interested to see if there are any major trends. Though it might be hard to completely judge since many people seem to have political beliefs that don't easily fall on the Republican/conservative . . . Democrat/liberal scale.

As for my answers I am only telling you my favorite alignment and class combination, because there are lots of other types of characters I enjoy playing besides from what I state below.

Political : Extremely conservative right-wing ex-Republican (basically left the party because I found them too liberal, but I wont go too far off on a tangent)
Favored Race : Human
Favored CLass : Cleric or Paladin
Favored Alignment : Lawful Good

Basically, my favorite character to play is one who is devoutly religious and principled and whose beliefs are the major motivating force. Sometimes such character's alignments can border on Lawful Neutral, depending on the nature of those beleifs and how harshly I see the character enforcing them.

Interestingly, although a Lawful Good human priest or paladin is my favorite kind of character, my second favorite character to make is an evil (LE or NE) wizard type of character who is obsessed with gaining knowledge or power.

Not to go off on a tangent again, but I'd be curious also to see if there are any alignment/class preferences based on religion as well as politics.

American democrats liberal?

roflmao

And which republicans? The actual family values -conservatives, or the corporate values -conservatives?

Yeah.

This is sort of pointless in general, considering the fundamental differences that exist between political parties. (For instance, over here, socialist-democrats is one of the conservative mainstream parties.)

Me, I vote Green (since we actually have more than two viable parties here). I'm a libertarian, but that's easy in Finland (we've got to be the most liberal country after Sweden).
