The text says spells that deal damage have normal effects but does this mean that it deals the same type of damage as the spell being replicated? Do resistances/immunities apply? If you replicate a force effect can it hurt ethereal creatures? Could a Shadow Fireball actually light combustibles on fire? I know objects automatically pass their saves but the spell would still do some damage. Might the damage only be fire damage if the Will save is failed?

Yes.

Edit: Okay, that was way too concise. The spells deal the same kind of damage and have the same effects as the actual spell. It's a partially real replication of the original spell.

Other than as stated, it acts exactly as the duplicated spell. Same type of damage, same resistances apply, et cetera. In the case of objects catching fire (as per the clause in Fireball for easily-flammable objects), objects auto-pass the will save but the precise details of the 'catching fire' effect is unclear - they either catch fire (but the continuing flames deal a small percentage of the normal damage), they have a percentage chance of catching fire rather than doing so automatically, or they have a percentage chance of catching fire and the continuing flames deal less than normal damage. It depends on whether catching fire is considered a damaging effect in and of itself, and whether or not the continuing flames are considered to be part of the original spell.
