Depends. What are you hoping to get out of the half-dragon-ness? Enhanced melee capability?

Another question to ask: Do you get the half dragon LA for free, or get it reduced for reasons? (Like the whole party is getting a certain amount of LA for free to get them to play more interesting races then human/dwarf/elf/hobbit or something? )
