I just noticed this in the new art, so I went back to see when it started. Apparently, when he got to Sandsedge he started having a neck gap. Before this, we could see during his Resurrection that he wore the shirt underneath with the top untied.

Was this for the Western continent arc only (because it was hot there?)? or some other reason?

When in doubt, it's probably an art upgrade.

Probably. We'll know for sure if it stays like that when they get to the colder climate of the dwarven lands.

Yeah, it also happened to Dragon-continuity Roy between the Dragon strips and Edition Wars, as well as Thog in the big character poster (http://www.giantitp.com/Images/PostersTogetherBig.jpg).

Considering how many rounds it takes to remove armor - if you were in danger of being thrown overboard, you'd unbutton early too.

I find it funny that in that poster the Paladins are not unbuttoning (with the exception of the 1 Paladin that would probably slash people for not covering up :smallconfused:)

And here I was.... about to set something on fire.

Well, with the new art style it looks like he's wearing a leisure suit rather than armor, so I think we can assume that he's abandoned wearable metal altogether in favor of slipping into something a bit more... comfortably suave.

It looks like armor to me. It's got pauldrons and tassets.

Looks like armor to me as well, although I don't think plate mail of any sort goes well with the new limb art. If the Giant happens to care about the input of one less than humble forum poster, I think he should either change the color of the sleeves to something else or add a visible elbow/knee joint to the plate armored characters.

That would actually help quite a bit.

Next up: Make hands flesh-colored circles, but have the fingers remains as black lines. They could even have thumbs finally! It'd be less creepy, match the established style better (think of the depiction of fists), and still provide for some upgraded detail.

They have thumbs when they need them. Tarquin made a thumbs up symbol during the arena scene.
