View Full Version : The Temple of the 20

Vespe Ratavo
2007-02-05, 07:30 PM
The Temple of the 20 is a temple devoted to Icosahedronism. Icosahedronism is a religion which believes in many gods called "players," who each control one mortal being through the use of dice, "character sheets" which give each persons abilities a numerical value, and experience points, which give a person power for overcoming obstacles. The gods, according to Icosahedronism, band together in small groups, with one supreme god leading each group, called a "DM" or "Dungeon Master," who dictates the actions of all others in the immediate area besides the "players" characters.

The name of the Temple, as well as the very name Icosahedronism, come from the belief that the gods roll 20 sided dice, or Icosahedrons, to decide most mortal events.

In the center of the church is the altar, with pews surrounding it. In the middle of the altar is the Stairway to Heaven, which is believed to one day allow believers to "break the fourth wall" and enter heaven to meet their players.

To the left is the game room, filled with all sorts of games and fun, to emulate the gods themselves. You may also ask the diviners to find out what your character sheet looks like there.

To the right lies a corridor with several rooms. Most are the rooms of the priests and priestesses, but a few are different. There is a room where you may ask permission from the "DM" to grant you something, from magic items, to roleplaying XP to the ability to switch your scores around. There is also a feasting room, replenished by the gods themselves.

To become a Cleric, you must ask permission from a current Cleric. The current list is:
Vespe Ratavo

As a Cleric of Icosahedronism, you may take any domains.

Ekrath and Estone both teleport in and Ekrath clutches his chest and begins to breath heavily.

2007-02-05, 07:43 PM
The player of the characters Magtok and Agent Omega descends from the stairway. The player is clothed in robes of Magtok, and holds a rubber chicken in his left hand.

He seems somewhat confused. Where the heck am I? Did I fall through the fourth wall again? Crud.

Vespe Ratavo
2007-02-05, 07:44 PM
Vespe runs over to the men. My gods! Is he hurt? He fails to notice the god standing behind him. Why do I feel like my player just failed a spot check.....

McBish
2007-02-05, 07:48 PM
((Oh the fourth wall isn't going to be happy when he sees this place.))

Raistlin1040
2007-02-05, 07:48 PM
Yeah. It's a kind of curse that the clerics of his church put on him. Personally the god's great but his clerics are stupid. Ekrath's a favored soul so he's not supposed to enter other churchs. But yeah he'll pass out in a few minutes and I'll take him home.

Lord Magtok
2007-02-05, 07:48 PM
Hmmm...I seem to be in a temple. Run by Vespe? How unusual.

The player sees the likely injured person, and tries to keep himself from interfering with mortals, by hiding behind a D20 sculpture that materializes out of nowhere.

Vespe Ratavo
2007-02-05, 07:49 PM
Ah. Very well then. He turns around. Hmm....don't remember that sculpture...

Raistlin1040
2007-02-05, 07:53 PM
Ekrath takes his sword and jams it into his shoulder.
Ahhh much better. While I'm sure many townies will dismiss this church as a crazed fantasy we don't. We know our classes and a few of our "feats". When I died I saw my player. His name is Raistlin1040 and he asked his DM to figure out a way to revive me. We need to know more about our "character sheets" and players.

Lord Magtok
2007-02-05, 07:53 PM
Lord Magtok The Player decides he needs to hide somewhere else before he does a butterfly effect-esque mistake. He takes the rubber chicken and messes around with it, until he finds himself sucked inside.

All that is left of him is a rubber chicken behind the sculpture.

Darnin walks in. Woah, what is this place? And what is that stairway there for?

Lord Magtok
2007-02-05, 08:19 PM
The rubber chicken spits out a cow, a rather annoying cow who feels the urge to sing every time his player has nothing better to do.

As one might assume, the large bovine begins to sing.

I am cow, hear me moo... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QW4vvG4ksJE

Vespe Ratavo
2007-02-05, 08:30 PM
Well Darnin, this place is a temple of Icosahedronism. Basically, we believe that...well. Take the pamphlet. The pamphlet just reads what the first post says.
As for you, Erkath, follow me. He walks towards the game room.

Lord Magtok
2007-02-05, 08:40 PM
The rubber chicken is suddenly floating in the air, and flies into the cow. The cow is instantly disintegrated, and the rubber chicken suddenly turns around and dives towards the back of Vespe's head, hoping to sneak attack him.

Vespe Ratavo
2007-02-05, 08:45 PM
Vespe turns around lightning fast and slices the chicken in half. Thank goodness for natural 20s.

Lord Magtok
2007-02-05, 08:49 PM
The ruber chicken falls to the ground, and all of Magtok the Player's power in this world is destroyed. he can still rule over his PCs, but until he gets a new Rubber Interdimensional Poultry, or RIP, he is unable to enter the Town personally.

Vespe Ratavo
2007-02-05, 08:50 PM
Hmm...why do I get the feeling that I just pissed off a god....ah well.

2007-02-05, 08:50 PM
A loud groan is heard, and then a loud shattering noise. The fourth wall descends upon the church, asking if anyone would help fix it.

2007-02-05, 08:53 PM
In the center of the church is the altar, with pews surrounding it. In the middle of the altar is the Stairway to Heaven, which is believed to one day allow believers to "break the fourth wall" and enter heaven to meet their players.

Lord Magtok the Player rips himself out of the fourth wall Alien-style, with a new rubber chicken. He then runs out of the temple to avoid getting arrested.

Vespe Ratavo
2007-02-05, 08:53 PM
Vespe runs to stab the wall, but Jen Irwin (http://rotfw.fireball20xl.com/) flies in. I THOUGHT I FINISHED YOU! She nukes the fourth wall.

Saurous
2007-02-05, 08:56 PM
The fourth wall completely falls apart, resulting in the fusion of both the Town, and the World above the Message Board. A loud shout comes from somewhere.

Look what you've done!

Vespe Ratavo
2007-02-05, 08:58 PM
Reality completely tears apart and the world goes crazy.
Vespe's player glances down at Vespe and Jen.
Oh my Gods it's JEN! HI JEN! *fanboy squeal*
Crap. I need to get out of here. She flies out through a convenient hole in reality.
OH NOES! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!
Not to worry. Vespe's player pulls out a plot hole, and throws it into the church. Everything is conveniently fixed.

Deus Mortus steps down from the stairs, "Hmmm nifty"

darnin
2007-02-05, 09:29 PM
Darnin stands there confused.
Completely random chaos, things that aren't supposed to exist being killed for no reason, and free food? Where do I sign up?

Vespe Ratavo
2007-02-05, 09:54 PM
Right here. *Hands Darnin a clipboard* Now, do you want to be a Cleric or a member?
((Gotta go, just sign then go do something))

2007-02-05, 09:58 PM

Raistlin1040
2007-02-06, 07:15 PM
The two sit down
We don't know much but we've found a bit through investigation. I've got 20 levels of Paladin and 20 levels of favored soul and he's got 25 levels of Bard. I'm an elf but have a +2 INT due to being born a drow and reincarnated. He's a human. I have the "Power Attack", "Cleave" and "Great Cleave" feats. He has Skill focus Diplomancy. I'm LG and he's CN. I'm afraid other then that we know little.

First post? What the heck are you talking about? Where is this post thing you're referring to?

Vespe Ratavo
2007-02-09, 09:29 PM
Over there. She points to a bulletin board. The first post tacked onto the bulletin board contains the information here (and also in the first post,)

There is a room where you may ask permission from the "DM" to grant you something, from magic items, to roleplaying XP to the ability to switch your scores around. There is also a feasting room, replenished by the gods themselves.

To become a Cleric, you must ask permission from a current Cleric. The current list is:

As a Cleric of Icosahedronism, you may take any domains.

Lord Magtok
2007-02-09, 09:35 PM
He reads the first post.

I see. Well, I don't share your belief system. I believe Plot to be the only true deity, and all others merely his pawns.

Vespe Ratavo
2007-02-09, 09:39 PM
Feh, as you wish. Vespe retires to her room.

Ah, now see that Stairway to Heaven in the middle of the altar? Start walking. They start playing the song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMM3LpCkZQE) to activate it. Come back any time!

"That will take me back home?" He grins eagerly, though his smile is hidden by his helmet.

Yep. We designed it to go to a specific plane, but it'll send you back to yours.

"Thank you both greatly. And I don't think I'll be visiting again soon. I'm going to be busy." Practically running, he heads for the stairs.

And as his foot touches the first step, there is a loud cracking sound and a surge of magical energy in the area. The energy appears to be that of some kind of imprisonment spell.

Hurled back to the floor, Nathaniel quickly regains his feet. He looks at Vespe and Devlin and snarls angrily, "Explain. Now."

Vespe gasps. I...I...
Devlin points at Vespe. This is all your fault.
How was I supposed to know? I don't even know what's keeping him here!
Hmm...you may be right. Let me see...
Devlin goes up and pokes the stairway. She starts to walk up it, just coming down before she leaves this universe forever.
Seems fine to me. Maybe someone on your home plane wants you to stay here.

Nathaniel snorts derisively. "The mages of my realm have trouble with simple fireballs, none of them would have enough skill to bind me to a distant plane. It must be someone from here, or some other plane."

Shaking his head with a sigh, Nathaniel mutters to himself, "By God, the very capital is under siege and I'm stuck in some Godforsaken distant plane..."

Hmm....the only thing I can do is offer to send someone else in your place....hmm... I suppose I could go.

"No point. I have to be there to lead them, or its all over. In any case, this is going to have to wait to tomorrow. I need to get some sleep. Do either of you know of a place I can sleep for free?"

Vespe Ratavo
2007-02-10, 01:08 AM
Hmm...if you want to, you can sleep here....it's fairly easy and takes almost no time to create a domicile. ((i.e. just click New thread. Seriously. No one minds if you make a house.)) Hmm...I don't really know of any other places.
