does damage reduction (if i cast the spell) effect the damage i take. for example if i had 5/- and took 5 damage from the other person would i take 0 damage. if reduction does effect it would the damage overcome 5/magic?

Try the Simple Q&A thread, things get answered pretty quickly there.

I would judge that you would take damage. The spell 'shield other' states '...and creates a mystic connection between you and the subject so that some of its wounds are transferred to you.'

In my opinion, the subject (without DR) takes a hit, and half the wound (already incurred now) is magically transferred to you, AS A WOUND. It circumvents your DR. DR is something (natural or magical) that acts to block certain kinds of damage at the moment of impact... in this case the victim already took the damage, and it is clearly stated that this hitpoint damage (and nothing else) is shared with you.

daggaz is correct.

Spells and similar effects ignore Damage Reduction.
