I'm playing a half-elf witch with a Shadow patron (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/witch/witch-patrons), and am absolutely loving it. The Witch class is absolutely crammed with flavor and roleplaying opportunities. It's strong from the get-go, but not insanely so. My party and I are all level 3, but plan on playing for quite a while.

My problem is illusions. Thanks to my shadow patron, I get minor image on my spell list, and have been using it to the hilt. Unfortunately, the next two shadow spells I get are darkness and deeper darkness (ho-hum). What I really want are minor image and major image. None of the witch patrons grant minor image, and only trickery (which I don't want) grants major image.

Short of spell research, are there any ways to add minor image & major image (or any wizard/bard spell for that matter) to my spell list?

tl;dr: how to add wizard spells to witch list plz!

The only way I know of without using a UMD check is the Samsaran's alternate racial trait.

Wow. That's one heck of an alternate trait! I hadn't even looked at Samsarans for a default race pick before. That could be pretty sick on a bard, witch or magus. Next character... :)

Off-List Spell Guide (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?296803-Pathfinder-mini-guide-Casting-spells-from-other-lists)

For what would work for you:
Samsaran is quick and easy, unless you're already locked into your race (and even then, the bonus spells thing is about all they have going for them).

If you have the CHA and can spare some feats, Eldritch Heritage> Imp. Eldritch Heritage can get you some Wizard spells, but you'd have to wait until level 11 to see any results. BUT this is one of the few ways to stay a single-class Witch.

Pathfinder Savant is fairly easy to get into, you lose 1 caster level, but every other level gives you one spell from ANY class (it gets bumped up 1 level though). But since you want Illusions, you are much better off with...

Veiled Illusionist (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/s-z/veiled-illusionist). Every level you get to add any Wizard list Illusion spell to yours.

Veiled Illusionist looks just about perfect. Lots of utility without being overwhelmingly powerful. I want to make sure I don't delay major hexes too long (there really are only one or two worth getting, but they're really worth getting, but Witch 1-5, Veiled Illusionist 1, Witch 6, Veiled Illusionist 2, Witch 7-10, Veiled Illusionist 3-10 seems like a solid and delicious 20 level path for this guy.

Here's my current character. (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=584264) Fulfilling the prereq's for Veiled Illusionist would actually be right in character. I'll talk to my DM. Thanks for the recommendation!
